The negative effects of poverty: beyond the economic | Personal opinion

Hello Project HOPE friends, I wish you all a good week. Today I want to talk about something that I consider is known to everyone, which is poverty.

It is evident that poverty is a problem that goes far beyond lack of income. Although the economic aspect is the most obvious, poverty deeply impacts many areas of life, limiting access to basic rights such as health, education, and opportunities for personal and professional development. Its effects create a cycle that is difficult to break, usually affecting entire generations and perpetuating social inequalities.

For example, one of the most serious effects of poverty is the lack of access to adequate health services. People living in poverty often have difficulty receiving timely medical care, medications, and preventive treatments.

This generates a high infant mortality rate, lower life expectancy, and greater vulnerability to chronic and preventable diseases. The lack of access to health not only affects people in the present, but also has an impact on their future quality of life, making it more difficult to escape the cycle of poverty.

Education is also another notable area where poverty has a negative impact. Children from poor families often cannot access quality education. Many are forced to leave school to work and help their families, which significantly reduces their opportunities to advance and aspire to better jobs in the future. Furthermore, the educational resources available to those living in poor areas are often limited, increasing inequality between students from different social classes.

It is quite clear that living in conditions of poverty also limits access to opportunities that can make the difference between improvement and stagnation. Poor people have fewer opportunities to access well-paid jobs, since many of these require high levels of education, specific skills or networks of contacts to which they do not have access.

And to finish, because it is evident that the consequences are many, there is a strong psychological impact. The emotional and psychological weight of living in poverty is also significant. The constant worry about daily survival can lead to anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. These mental conditions affect personal relationships, self-esteem, and the ability to make long-term decisions, further limiting personal development.

As you can see, it's not just about the lack of money, but it goes much deeper, Don't you think?
