The Self and Its Existential Dilemma
Source
The human being faces a fundamental existential dilemma: the search for personal satisfaction through possession, discovery and creation.
Often, this quest is centered on the material. Let us imagine a person walking crestfallen, looking at the ground as if he could find the solution to his problems there.
He is unhappy about the lack of luck in his life, feeling that everything is going wrong. Suddenly, he finds a money bill, which brings him momentary euphoria, as he believes his luck has changed.
However, this joy is deceptive, as it quickly turns into the need to find more money, forgetting that this find was only a temporary relief from his bad situation.
This cycle repeats itself, leading the person to accumulate debts in his constant search for well-being, believing that good fortune will offer him more opportunities.
This story illustrates the deceptive human need for stability and, subsequently, growth, driven by greed rather than true happiness.
Happiness is not bought with money; what we acquire with it are things that may momentarily lift our spirits, but they do not provide us with genuine happiness, which is something that arises from within.
Dissatisfaction becomes an obstacle to experiencing fulfillment, transforming us into “serial hoarders” in search of ephemeral moments of happiness. As dissatisfaction increases, so does the loss of fulfillment.
True happiness is born from the inner potential we all possess, freeing us from the tension of “not having”. Believing that happiness is a right to be obtained distances us from the possibility of being truly happy.
I am happy by the simple fact of expressing what I feel, without the need for external approval. I learned that dissatisfaction has no end, and true well-being comes from sharing love, respect and admiration.
I will say the present society we find ourselves in has actually done so much of harm than good to us because it has made us to target lot of things beyond we can ever imagine of which should not be so. Dissatisfaction has become what lot of people battle with
That is correct, the greatest enemy of the being at present is society.
