Take it Or Leave it; Rejection is Part of Business.

in Project HOPE2 days ago

In business, after R&D, the next major concern to get revenue is sales. It is one thing to create a product or service, it is another thing to sell them and when you have a business, you are selling to either individuals or businesses but in all there is always the fear that comes with selling the product or services especially when you are doing it for the first time.

The first way to overcome the fear of rejection is actually just to accept that you are afraid. You do not need to lie to yourself that you are not scared, remember that it is not a crime to be afraid, everyone at one point in time is afraid of something, it is gathering the courage to make the sale. The first question I always advise people to ask themselves is what is the worst thing could actually happen if a person rejects you? The worse that can happen is them saying NO.

If you get no as an answer, it isn't going to be the end of your life, neither will it ruin your career. If you know this, then you would learn to accept whatever response you get as it is. Once you have accepted that, then you begin to envision the worse case scenario. Doing this helps you remove more of the fear because you are not expecting something than a rejection. So since you know that there is a high chance of a rejection, what can you do differently that can reduce the chances of a rejection?

When you start to look at how to reduce this rejection, then you are starting to fight your fear and get courage even though you are afraid. When you do this, you begin to have the gut to get into this. When you eventually get into doing it, you should know that not everyone will say yes, if they do, then it is fine but when they don't it is human that you feel pain but how you handle this pain is paramount.

When it comes to rejection, you do not need to blame someone else instead you just try to understand why the person or group of people are saying no to you. It might be that the pricing is either too low or too high, or they just do not trust the product or service to give them what they want. See, there is nothing like a well designed selling strategy, if you can sell to someone what they need at the price they are willing to path with, then you have made a sales speech.

Instead of blaming people, you need to put yourself in their shoes and ask if you were going to say no as well if you were in their shoes. If the answer is yes, then you are starting to understand what is going on and you start to look towards the problem and not the solution.

Another thing you need to learn when it comes to rejection is that rejection is part of growth. If you have never been rejected, then you will remain in your comfort zone. When you face rejection, it is a window to improve, it is an avenue for you to understand that you need to be at a level that is above your comfort and work to meet your prospective consumer or customer's need.

Rejection is actually a room to improve and grow in disguise of pain. Rejection and failing is part of life, you need to learn how to improve yourself when you get rejected by understanding the reason for the rejection and how to get the person or group of people to say yes. When they say No, ask them to share with you what they would like to see to close the deal, if it is something you can bring our your bargaining chips for, then do so but if you have to go back and re-strategize,and please do so in other to become the best in what you do.
