Behind The Scenes: Working At The Milan Fashion Week 💎

💎 Dear Steemians 💎

Today I would like to share a professional adventure with you. When I was living in Milan, I worked as a dresser at the Milan Fashion Week. Let me take you behind the scenes of the most prestigious industry of Milano!

Twice a year the city of Milan changes dramatically. You feel it in the air. Then it's Fashion Week. You have probably already seen millions of images from this mega event. But have you ever wondered who is working behind the curtain and how a Fashion Show works? I was wondering exactly that, so I applied for the role of a dresser and got the job. Here is what I experienced:
💎

First of all, we all had to wear black. It helps the designers to keep a clear vision of the clothes. If we stand behind them or hold the fabric, we don't disturb the overall image of the dress.

I was working for four designers: Geoj Official // Adinda Moeda x Jeany Wang // Carra Hosiery. You have to understand, that not all the shows are just filled with one designer or one brand. Often they are compiled. Above all when they are starting out. This is something the Oxford Fashion Studio is focussing on: emerging designers.

Here you can watch the entire show by Geoj Official. It's a fashion label based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Georgia Josephine is the 19-year-old, creative mind behind the designs. A true rising star in the fashion industry.

Also Adinda Moeda and Jeany Wang brought fascinating designs. Adinda made the fashion and Jeanny the jewelry. The accessories were one of the most tricky things to dress because they were very fragile. Also, Milan is the first show, so all the pieces still have to travel to Paris, London, and New York. It would be a disaster if it breaks in the first show.🧚🏼‍♀️

If you are interested into their designs, you can have a look at the show under this link:

Working behind the scenes in a Fashion Show is not as hectic as you might think. I don't think it's comparable to a concert or a circus show. Not so many things can go wrong. The only essential element is: TIME! You have to get the models changed in time for their next appearance. There the pressure is on but nothing you wouldn't be able to handle.

The models really come from all over the world. So you can imagine that communication is not always easy. I was very wary of not touching anybody without their consent, which happens a lot to models. They also don't always have a lot of privacy whilst getting changed. There were male models, representatives from the Fashion Studio, security, etc around. I tried my best for them to feel safe and protected whilst getting changed.

The next day I also dressed the models of Fabrosanz. A successful label from South Africa. The name stands for (F) Fabulous (R) Royalty (S) Sanz. It's a "fashion house for the stylish modern-day working women with an intricate eye for beautiful garments", how they say. But I really enjoyed the designs and I would love to see people wearing it in the streets of Milan.
🇿🇦

Furthermore, Rwanda Clothing brought dynamic, colorful garments that I would love to wear. I would have loved to sneak some of their dresses out but unfortunately, I'm not such a master thief.

Joselyne Umutoniwase is the head of Rwanda Clothing. She is the creative mind behind the brand and one of the best new talents in creating fashion in Africa. The brand is designed to become a fashion revolution by establishing an own Rwandan style and fashion identity. So if you ever travel to Kigali, make sure you have a look at her store! Here you can look at some of her items during the Runway Show.

So this is the Behind-The-Scenes-Crew that put this show together.

I hope you enjoyed your little trip into the Milanese Fashion World. I could write way more about these days because endless things happened. When we finished the show, for example, we couldn't get out to the street because Nicki Minaj was doing a photo shooting in front of the Hotel where this show took place. And we were not allowed to pass. Well, it was also interesting to see Nicky Minaj work. It really seemed like she knew what she wanted. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures at that moment.

Have a wonderful start to the new week!
Keep creating, keep writing, and keep sharing!

I never imagined you as a fashionista 😀

I'm the next Cathy Hummels! You will see!

Great post! Thanks for sharing!

Fashion is not something I'm usually interested on but your post showcases one side of fashion that I had never seen before. It was a very interesting read!

Hi @tulio.franzini ! Thanks for reading , and yes, I was not interested in fashion either, but I was curious to see where all the added value comes from in an industry that generates 100 million euros in one week. It is indeed a world full of amazing creatives, but extremely competitive, and of course it has dark corners.
