Breaking Bad Habits: How to Replace Negative Routines with Positive Ones

in Project HOPE4 days ago

Many of us will agree with me that there are times whereby you want to do a particular thing but at the end of the day, you find yourself not doing it. Not only that, you also find yourself not doing that which you want to do. This is just the complete and accurate description of how habits can be.

Years ago, I was actually suffering from a lot of habits that I feel like I need to let go. I am talking about bad habits. I have etried several structures and strategies to break those habits but I find myself breaking it not until I read two book on it which is breaking bad habits by Joyce Meyer and Atomic Habit by James Clear.

One of the things we need to understand about habit is that it is established or created on the foundation of repetition. Research makes us to understand that it takes 30 days of repetitive act to make a habit whether positive or negative habits.

The first thing you need to understand is breaking a bad habit will not be easy as it will require your consistency. You just need to keep it going and moving. Since the habit is a repetition, you will also need repetition to break it.

Another thing I will like to establish is that those habits will be broken if you take it once s tims. Sometimes we want to break a lot of habits at the same time. It does not work that way. You will need to take it slowly and gently. Take it at once a time. If you are able to make a habit after 30 days, it is much more enough for you and gradually you will see all those bad habits finally broken.

Peace on y'all
