How the second uganda total lockdown has affected my life

in Team Uganda3 years ago

Hello team uganda.
I greet you all and hope that you are keeping safe, wearing your masks and sanitizing.
When the total lockdown was announced, i was far from home. I had travelled for a friend's traditional wedding. Luckily, i was able to travel back the very last day before public transport was banned.

I miss going to church since churches are closed and public transport is closed too. Sunday is still my favorite day but my sunday routine changed. Now i just stay at home and sunday passes by like any other day. I miss our sunday routine of taking pictures.

I am a travel freak. I love being on the road. Now i can't even leave the house. This is a picture from my last road trip to soroti.

With the inter district ban, i cannot access jinja town since i stay in nakibizzi. They don't allow us to cross the bridge. This ban has affected me the most because my sister that i stay with couldn't travel to kampala to go check on her husband when he fell sick. He was alone in the house, battling covid 19 and none of us could go and atleast be there for him. My brother in law, who was like a father to me, fell sick and passed away in one week. With everything going on, our family and friends couldn't even come for the burial. I will never recover from that. Below is the fire that we light, as a tradition when a family looses someone in Uganda.

Also, since the covid 19 test is quite expensive, most of people are not testing. If you get the signs, you just start on medication. I had the signs, i was so weak, i had body pain and i had completely lost my sense of smell. The concoction of garlic, ginger, lemon and honey became my friend until i got better.

Every day someone passes on here in my village. I am tired of hearing about deaths and sickness. There is no good news at all. So even though it's only been a week since my brother in law passed on, i decided to throw a simple baby shower at home for my sister who is due. I also just wanted to change the mood at home. Everyone was so low, including the kids and i just wanted all of us to cheer up a bit.

To say that the lockdown has affected me sounds like an understatement. It has changed my whole life. With our bread winner gone, after the lockdown life is going to be very different. Huge decisions will have to be made.
My only hope right now is in God. He knows why things happen to us, he knows the future and for now am just praying that he will give me and my family the strength to move forward when all this is done.
God bless you all.

Hi @debbiez

Sorry about the loss of your brother in law due to Covid19. It's such a pity. May God strengthen you and your entire family in such a trying time. You were so smartly dressed at your friend's traditional wedding event.

Thanks for being wise and opting to spice up the moods at home through that Baby shower event. You are awesome.

Thanks for taking part in the contest. I wish you all the best.

Thank you so much for your amazing remarks!

Sorry about the death of your brother in law, it's indeed heart breaking, but God will see you through.
