Hello Family,
I woke up and attended classes as usual.

I was thought to my self, what shall we prepare for supper. Then boom, Okra came to mind

Okra

This delicacy is one of the traditional dishes in our culture that sells like hot cake. One cannot talk about a healthy meal and okra is not mentioned.The Swahili call it bamia and I understand in English its called finger ladies.Some people mix this with dry fish , fry it with onions , tomatoes and cooking oil.Others prefer to dry it and have it pasted with peanut butter

Some of the health benefits of okra are that

  1. Rich in nutrients
    Okra is rich in many nutrients and particularly high in vitamins C and K. This fruit is unique, as it provides protein, a nutrient that many other fruits and vegetables lack.

  2. Contains beneficial antioxidants
    Okra is rich in antioxidants that may reduce your risk of serious diseases, prevent inflammation, and contribute to overall health. Most notably, it contains polyphenols that may contribute to heart and brain health.

  3. May lower heart disease risk
    High cholesterol levels are associated with a greater risk of heart disease.
    Okra contains a thick gel-like substance called mucilage, which can bind to cholesterol during digestion, causing it to be excreted with stools rather than absorbed into your body.

  4. May have anticancer properties
    Okra contains a type of protein called lectin, which may inhibit the growth of human cancer cells.

  5. May lower blood sugar
    Eating okra has been linked to blood sugar control. Yet, some research suggests that it may interfere with common diabetes medications.

  6. Beneficial for pregnant women
    Eating okra may help pregnant women meet their daily folate needs. Folate is important for preventing neural tube defects.

  7. Easy to add to your diet
    Though okra may not be a staple in your kitchen, it’s quite easy to cook.

Wow, I am just used to pouring hot water in chopped pieces and drinking the water. It evidently has many functions. Thanks for this, maybe next time you could give us the true recipe. I would love to try it

How do they cook it though to take out that slimy taste? Have tried taking it as a liquid but it was not that great.

True,as liquid the taste isnt that good however the benefits are immeasurable.As for the slimy taste, cook using warm water.

Okay, we boiled using cold water. Didn’t know it had to be warm.
