Portugal - Coronavirus
Portugal is now finally starting to close schools, monuments, churches, establishments, conferences and much more.
This should have happened earlier, but as we Portuguese we always hope that something serious will happen to take more drastic measures.
There are currently 1,308 suspected cases and 5,674 people under surveillance. Since Thursday there are 34 more new cases. 172 people are still waiting for results.
Incredible how every day we see the numbers increasing, and Portuguese society is still not really concerned with the situation that it is currently experiencing.
I hear comments like "it's just a flu", "nothing happens to the younger". Anyway, I'm revolted by this state of social responsibility.
A state of alert throughout the country will be decreed by the government tonight, putting all the means of civil protection and security forces on standby.
Supermarkets are starting to have empty shelves, due to the fact that some are panic. However, we must think not only about ourselves and others, and stop being selfish to keep everything.
Fear, irrationality, competition for resources and need for control.
The Portuguese stock market in the last few days is constantly falling, due to the shutdown of several companies. Many of them are adhering to remote work to combat this trend of declining production.
However now only time will tell us how everything will go!!!
Let us all be responsible and try to leave as little as possible. If you think you are at risk, do not get in touch with older people.
It's complicated I know, but even I decided not to be with my parents personally, as an alternative I constantly call to get news.

In a few days time the shelves will be restocked and there will be a lot of people with months worth of toilet paper and rice at home.
My wife and I were shocked when we saw all the people on the crowded beaches in Lisbon and Algarve etc.
Here in our village the older people are really starting to worry though. Let's hope we start seeing a drop in those numbers soon.
Many people here in Portugal aren't aware of the seriousness of what is happening in the world.
It's only when there are many dead in the numbers that are released that many of these people will actually shut themselves up at home.
It is complicated to solve this problem!!!
