Why I Am Still Here
The first thing I knew about Steemit was that you could make money writing all kinds of texts. With that first attraction I approached this ecosystem. Soon I realized that the profit was smaller than I thought, but I was already hooked up by other motivations that at first I could not imagine.
Many may find it strange that I tell them that one of the motivations why I have stayed at Steemit is to enjoy a space of freedom. Yes, to be free in this little patch of cyberspace. I have many years deeply missing what it is to live in freedom.
I live in a country (Venezuela) that has been ruled for the last 20 years by a dictatorship. In all that time our freedom has been restricted in every way. Something as simple as the existence of a free newspaper, where you can write what you think, is almost unthinkable in my country. Expressing one's feelings in person can have serious consequences. Many journalists have been imprisoned, and others have been expatriated. Many people have been killed for expressing their discontent with the regime.
Living with so many restrictions, imposed by a despotic government, has been a very hard experience for me. So from the beginning Steemit meant a kind of oasis where it has been possible to make another kind of life, much freer, much nicer. In Steemit I have been able to express my thoughts without any kind of censorship, nobody has indicated to me what I can or cannot say. I alone have been responsible for deciding what I want to write about, that is freedom.
But in addition to this freedom to express my ideas, I have also achieved a very nurturing environment at Steemit. In the two years that I have been at Steemit (with an interruption of some months due to technical issues) I have had the pleasure of sharing with very talented people in all areas of knowledge. From those dear Steemians I have learned a lot, with them I have been able to sustain a fruitful and creative exchange of ideas. With them I have felt good, I have been able to cultivate my understanding and my spirit.
And in those wellbeing feelings it is summarized all of my motivations to continue here. We came to Steemit to have a good time, to feel comfortable, to feel the human warmth, to enjoy the company of the community.
Steemit is a kind of big house where many families are together, where it is always possible to find groups that can help us carry out any kind of project, where there will always be a word of encouragement, accompaniment and understanding. In steemit we will never be alone. In Steemit there will always be someone to count on. These are the great strengths of this ecosystem. That is why we remain here.
Thanks to our friend @theycallmedan for the invitation to talk about this topic.
Thank you for your time.
I think many come here for the rewards, sadly that doesn't always work out for everyone. But then they find other more valuable things here like friendship and support and stay around. I'm glad it's worked out for you. Hope all is well as can be in Venezuela.

That's my friend. The most important thing is the friendships we make every day, that's why we stay here. Hugs. Thank you for your comment.
