Coffee sacrilege
Coffee has fuelled my mornings for a long time, most of my adult life actually. My parents didn't let me drink it as a kid, quite rightly so too, but from the age of around 16 years old I started my day with a coffee.
This morning was no different and as I busied myself with getting my guns, ammunition and equipment ready to head on up to the range I was sipping a coffee.
Over the course of a typical week day I consume between 3-4 cups of coffee; Usually a flat white and sometimes espresso. On the weekends it is sometimes less and sometimes more depending on my activities.
As I've gotten older I've found the effects of the brew have changed though; They don't perk me up as readily in the mornings, and in the evening, at bed time, I'm often wide awake and find it difficult to sleep. Keeping in mind I don't often hit the rack until about midnight, not falling right to sleep is problematic as I'm usually up between 5-6am. Three hours sleep doesn't make for a happy chappy, where I'm concerned.
So, to my great disgust and everlasting shame I have taken the decision to...This is somewhat embarrassing not drink coffee after 3pm in the afternoon unless it is...Decaffeinated. Yes y'all, the G-dog drinks decaffeinated coffee.
I know, I know...Before you say it you can just stop. I know I'm committing coffee-sacrilege...But if you spent a few days with the three-hours-sleep-G-dog you'd understand. It isn't enjoyable.
To be fair, the coffee-sacrilege that is decaffeinated coffee consumption is reserved for Sunday 3pm through to Thursday evening as I'm not too concerned about lack of sleep over the weekend as I'm either up early smashing out it's gloriousness, or have the ability to sleep in...But me at the office on only a few hours sleep isn't conducive to an enjoyable workplace.
I haven't done any research on the effects of caffeine on older people or why it affects people differently; Faith can drink coffee right before bed and be asleep 2 seconds after her head hits the pillow for instance? Weirdo. Maybe someone knows the answers and can enlighten me although in truth it doesn't matter really...I need my sleep and so decaffeinated coffee has entered my life.
I've been drinking it for two weeks now and I have to completely honest, I can't actually taste the difference, but I've been able to find sleep a little easier and that's not a bad thing.
So how about y'all? Does coffee affect you in this way? Do you get a buzz in the morning, find it difficult to sleep in the evening through drinking too much? Do you even drink coffee? (I know many weirdo's do not).

The image is one I took last night with my new macro camera lens - I'm just exploring what it is capable of at the moment. Those little brown things are granulated decaffeinated coffee grains.
Clear conscience.
Haha, yeah that's probably it, or maybe I'm just boring.
I love my coffee, I will have to introduce you to "Rocky and Silvia" one day, my long time friends.
I like coffee too and especially the moments shared over coffee. It's almost a word for catch up and be sociable with someone isn't it?
"Wanna get a coffee" is probably one of the most socially uttered questions. You think?
It is, very true.
If your in the city next week give me a shout and “we can catch up for coffee” my shout.
Deal. Let's do it.

I worked the coffee industry for 10 years, 5 of that as a roaster. It was said true coffee drinkers drink decaf for the very reasons you’ve laid out in your post. Its a rite of passage of sorts.
Ah ha! Then I'm a legit coffee ninja! Lol.
10 years in the industry is a long time...Probably not much you don't know about coffee huh?
I have to admit, I'm not one of those coffee connoisseur's but I do enjoy a good one and was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the decaf.
Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

I’ve been drinking both. We never drank coffee until our son was born lol it’s been a few years of dependence and we don’t like that much. Having natural energy like before is where we aim to get back to. I thankfully only drink a cup or two at most a day. The size of the cup is up for debate some days lol but only in the morning. I don’t have coffee after 11 AM or my sleep is ruined.
There’s nothing wrong with decaf! I just read that we have to drink organic decaf since the non organic is made that way with crazy chemicals. Haven’t researched it fully yet though to see what makes it decaf.
That picture is cool, new lens huh? Looks awesome!
I was pretty surprised at the taste of the decaf to be honest...Was pleasing. I need to drink less coffee overall to be quite frank...The problem is client meetings...The buggers always want to drink coffee.
I'm going to have a look at the decaf process, thanks for putting me onto that...Organic might be the way to go.

GASP sacrilege 😱
I’ve never knowingly tried decaf so I have no idea, if it’s working for you and you’re enjoying it not sure where the problem is? 😜
You drink twice as much coffee as me but then again you’re probably bigger 🤣 I’m otherwise an addict and can’t function without my coffees 😵
I could actually go without coffee to be honest, but I don't. I have a lot of meetings and they seem always to involve coffee hence the 3-4 cups. I should cut down I guess.
There's no problem really...Gave me something to write about and as drew a comment from you it did its job.
Have a good weekend huh?
I have never been a compulsive coffee drinker, but I love the taste of it. They say that the best coffee is Colombian coffee; I have tried several brands of coffee: Venezuelan, Colombian, Panamanian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian and Chilean ... It all tastes like cefé, lol, however, I must admit that the aroma of Colombian coffee is glorious, closely following that produced in my country. The same thing happens to me as to Faith, I can sleep right after drinking a cup of coffee, but I only rest 6 hours. Maybe my problem is some stress. However, I can say that there are healthier alternatives if you want to lower your caffeine consumption: There is wheat coffee, corn coffee, and barley coffee: It doesn't taste the same, but we can fool the brain, although I'm sure that never we will deceive the palate. I really hope your condition improves and you find a way to better sleep.
A hug
This sounds horrible. Life is too short to drink coffee made from corn...

I have trouble sleeping ... But not sure if because of coffee. Maybe I will try to quit it for a month and see what happens!
Could be the coffee, it affects people differently I guess. Maybe give it a break and see if it makes a difference.
Good post
It's ok.
Fair enough :)
