We're leaving behind many dApps and utilities that will need replacing

in OCD5 years ago

Many worked hard for Steem and are not feeling like they got enough out of it to move their closed-source apps to Hive. They won't make them open-source, most likely, and we'll lose a lot of utility. Another issue is that Steemit funded a few things before that won't be funded for Hive (because we don't have an insta-mined fund anymore). Main case is Busy, which has been quiet for 2 years and probably won't make a move.

As Steemit won't be around for Hive, a new condenser will be brought up and Steempeak will also allow people to use Hive. I'm wondering if Steempeak will become bigger than the replacement condenser. If so, the main interface for our blockchain will be centralised.

Another issue is SteemWorld. It's the dApp I use the most and it doesn't seem to be moving to Hive. SPS has already failed chiller. Replacement for its utility must arrive but I can't fund it or make it, so I will have to do without unless someone finds a solution for this.

Here's more info on the SteemWorld situation.

Let's see what happens with SteemLeo, SteemKR, Partiko, etc.

BuildTeam (owned by @thecryptodrive) will move to Hive. This implies Ginabot will move with other apps supported by them.

We're shedding a lot of utility, and bringing a lot along. We'll have to make an effort to rebuild to recover from the losses. I will try to code a couple of tools but I'm not a front end developer, I can't make anything pretty, so I will probably be the only user.

Let's see how things go! I'm excited about new beginnings, love 'em!

balanced and fair perspective in a sea of extremes. Right now am using both and just seeing what happens. I still think that the lack of a "middle class" is a major issue that seems to happen in every DPOS chain I've been involved in.
Cheers

Competition is good and would be the best outcome. Unless hive fixes the things that chiller mentions and also sps gets a complete revamp I can see how there really is no point in doing anything more than hobby stuff to contribute. I also think it really depends what will happen in the first month after launch, how justin will try to dump hive that he gets now, then maybe he will step up and develop steem which is good for the loyalists but he could just call it a day and in the meantime we will watch the old powers take hold of hive and either the glimmer of hope that things can be better will fade or it will remain and we will look north and fuck forward.

Also no need to be a designer with a nice frontend framework that makes sense to you it is simple enough to prototype in the browser and just have things look good by using default classes already provided.

Justin won't be getting Hive.

The only accounts who will not be included in the initial airdrop are those containing the Steemit Inc ninja-mined stake, and those who actively contributed to (and publicly declared support for) the centralization of the Steem Blockchain.

Hmmmmm, he hasn't shown much interest or good faith. Could but I see it as unlikely. But it could be, who knows, we'll see.

I kinda mispoke. I'm just very very bad at making front-end things fast. I make nodejs apps in a flash, but when it comes to taking them to a browser, even if it's not aesthetic, I have to make buttons and things like that; it takes me a whole day just to do something simple. So I don't.

Instead, I usually just make programs that do things automatically like "retrieve this file from filesystem and do things with it every 12 hours". So my apps work more from a config file and predetermined behaviour than through user interaction with buttons.

I want to make a lot of stuff like SteemAuto for votes and posts. If you're willing to do those simple things you say, we could make some stuff together, but I have a strong aversion toward front-end. I've made a couple of things already, though, but no front-end I've made works anymore because I don't know how to fix these things.

Just thinking about front-end kills my motivation to do anything.

He might be buying more steem on binance, also since binance etc are doing drops to their customers then chances are he will get a few mil or 100thou hive anyway. He won't get hive directly yes but he will get hive.

I agree maybe I am spitefully hoping that he does just drop everything.

If the repos are on gitlab or github etc then I am sure I or anyone could always help with frontend and tweak things for you. If you wish the backend to not be open then at least supply a mock api if needed since it does get a bit more intricate with all this damn node and spa nonsense haha. not a fan but trying to get it down recently. If straight static pages then that is also good for a frontend dev to tweak or layout completely and you can just pull in the styles.

If you have something can always dm me or if you are making it open for all feel free to tag me and we can all help make it pretty :)

True, I hadn't thought of that.

If you wish the backend to not be open

Oh I'm not like that. I don't care much about my code. I'm not making any money from it anyway.

since it does get a bit more intricate with all this damn node and spa nonsense haha

Yeah, I'll have to wait until the new nodes are announced, the front-ends and all of that. Luckily the code is the same so I can develop using Steemit node and move things there. I'll see if I can code a cross-poster for people to post on both chains at the same time.

Where can you be DM'd? Do you read Steem mentions? I don't have a problem with just tagging you and waiting for you to come in :P

Penderis everywhere, also in discord :) I do read mentions so that always good and considering it would be about something then maybe the mention can be in a post which is a brief that says "Hey assholes, you wanna help with this?" :)

Nice! :D I'm looking forward to calling upon your aid! :P

Yeah, I agree the split could provide a range of opportunities for those who maybe felt marginalised by the previous oligarchy and now get a chance to develop with fewer restrictions. So both chains will need to provide as much value as possible to hold onto their user base.

Yeap. That is good for the userbase, though, as both will compete and try to outdo each other. Who knows, maybe we'll see investors trying to create super tools for both chains and we'll reach a new era of blockchain blogging! :D

Exactly right now the chains will be similar but in the future, it will continue to change and dapps will want to reach as many users as possible so it makes sense to have cross-chain support

Definitely, I don't think it is clever for small accounts to just declare allegiance because it makes no difference until it makes a difference. We know what faults are what and this is the agreement now deal with it and find your way. A lot of decisions will be made for us by the big accounts anyway so we must just buckle up and navigate the storm.

Lol the way I see it is if people sell and go to Hive the Hive I own now will be worth more so either way you win by being Switzerland in the situation. I don't see any reason to run after whoever shouts the loudest, talk is cheap. Let's see what's in it for the user.

True, I am also in favour of hive but I am not going to suck it off because even dobartim is right about one thing, it all the old problems or like he calls it downvote lobby hehe. Koreans are buying up a lot of steem though so I expect they will want to dump it seems almost entirely up to them the current pump which means a whole lot of dump, we can guess which chain :)
