The Path We wish to see: Launching of Dalan (Art Donation Corner)

Running a non-profit organization is a chore in itself. Putting up an initiative to collect donations is another. Thankfully, Ms Jillian Batanes and Ms Jean Basdco Batanes, our donors from KissEd Golden Heart recognized this hurdle. So, when they put up a milktea shop, that is exactly what they thought of: put a place where donations can be made.

The idea was first thought of by Ms. Ms Jean Basdco who realized that the proximity of their tea shop to schools may also encourage the youth to volunteer and donate art materials. In a dainty corner inside the shop, we’ve set up a table where people can drop-off the art materials they wish to donate.

But why Dalan you ask?

Dalan is the Cebuano word for street. For us, the donation corner is a path we wish to forge with the people who wish to donate and help make art more accessible. The caption on our publication material captures what we intend for Dalan:

Creative Street has always been an initiative geared in making small pockets of safe space where children can make art. Yet we also recognize our constraints as a volunteer organization. Often, we shell out our own money to buy art materials for the children. Most of the time, we just make sound judgment (and a little bit of resourcefulness) to improvise.

There are more children out there that need help and access to better art materials and art education. So, here’s our short detour to our Dálan in making art accessible to all children: We can’t do it without you. Yes, YOU! Together, we can make the burden a little less heavy, and the road a little less bumpy. Will you help us find our next destination?

There is no such thing as “small” act of kindness. We really appreciate when you share with us some art materials (old or new) that we can use for our workshops. You may even volunteer with us if you want to go the extra mile

Dalan: An Art Donation Corner was officially launched on Jan. 23, 2021.

As part of our program, we’ve also organized an online watercolor workshop, Hues and H2Online. This is an offset of our previous watercolor and calligraphy workshop, only this one is conducted online. Complementing the au natural vibe of PALAMilk’s interior, we’ve used flowers as our main subject. Johnsent Talento, President of Creative Street was the facilitator of the event.

The amazing team behind Dalan is Johnsent Talento, Gini Aala, Yoan, Ramon Sadiego, Steph Masalta, Joshua Ladia, Palamilk Ms Jillian and Ms Jean. Come visit PALAMilk and see Dalan!

Fun fact, Gini Aala, our Founder and Vice-President Externals did the interior painting of PalaMILK. See how she did it here
