In the broadest sense, what you're poking at here is whether we believe we can have a "Star Trek future" in which everyone can strive for excellence in whatever field or area appeals to them, because all basic needs are covered by technology... OR are we going to end up with a "Hunger Games future" in which there is a tiny uber-class and everyone else lives in the dirt. That sort of dystopia was also shown in the movie "Elysium."

The hardest will probably be the "in between years" where the movers and shakers determine what wealth creation and the future looks like. On one side, you have billionaires like Elon Musk who see Universal Basic Income as essential, on the other you have traditional bankers and corporates who see it as evil.

A Star trek Future Can't happen without decades of war and poverty, where the lower classes rebel, attack, and sabotage the daily life for rulers, forcing them to change their ways.
