RE: If upvotes ceased to exist today, will you still be on Steem?

in OCD5 years ago

I don't think likes are meaningless. Facebook--ugh. But Twitter likes are relished. Appreciation of content is a meaningful reward. But comments, and interaction, for me that's the glue.
Communities I think might be the best thing that happened so far to Steem. In smaller, interest-related clusters, people might engage more. Engagement is the key. That's my opinion, based on my personal preference.
The only thing about upvotes is, some people actually need them to live. Some people depend on this income to help support themselves. So upvotes have to stay. I've actually been in contests where I've voted for someone else who needed the prize. I love the prize, but I don't need it to live.

Yeah, I know likes aren't worthless per se and that's why I put them in quotes. I was only referring to the intrinsic value of upvotes and like you pointed out, people live off the money. That's mighty kind of you.

You're right about communities all I can say is lots of people haven't adjusted to the communities feature or don't even realise know the new Steemit site is running.

I just found out about the communities a few days ago. (I'm not too clever at negotiating the network). I'm excited and hope to promote them. People just need to do a little PR, all of us, to alert others about communities we like. For example, I joined several. Three of them: hive-138326 (poetry community; hive-174904 (collage community);hive-100514 (insect pub community)

I have to try and support members of the communities, I guess. Maybe I'll have to set a quota and upvote at least one member of a community each day. That's the next step :)

I wish you well. This is my first interaction with you, I believe.
Cheers!

Yeah first of many, hopefully.
