Plagiarism

Plagiarism in simple term is the act of copying or using other's work without acknowledging the owner of the original work.

It's like taking or claiming your relatives or someone's property to be your own simply because he/she does not really puts restrictions in them.

Plagiarism in it self is wrong no matter the intention you have while using it.but they're also ways you can go about it to make it right.
We will also discuss this ways later, but first of all let's look at the types of plagiarism.

Types of plagiarism

They are seven common types of plagiarism which are commonly committed by people while writing. these are;

1Complete plagiarism
2Direct plagiarism
3Paraphrasing or mosaic plagiarism
4Self-plagiarism
5Accidental plagiarism
6Source-based plagiarism
7Patchwork plagiarism

For the purpose of this work we are only going to discuss Four types.

1 Complete plagiarism: this is the complete copying of other's work word with word, paragraph with paragraph, picture with picture, without any slightest changed.

E.g Plagiarism is presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition, as is the use of material generated wholly or in part through use of artificial intelligence (save when use of Artificial Intelligence - AI for assessment has received prior authorisation e.g. as a reasonable adjustment for a student’s disability). Plagiarism can also include re-using your own work without citation. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.

Above is an example of complete plagiarism because there's no source or double quotes" " and it copied word with word.

2 Direct plagiarism : Direct plagiarism is same like complete plagiarism except that it has to do with the amount of information copied, in this type not all information are copy.

E.g Plagiarism is presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement.

Above is an example of Direct plagiarism because the information is copied directly only that the information is short.

3 Paraphrasing or Mosaic plagiarism :in this type of plagiarism the students borrows phrases from the original content without citing the source of the phrase or quoting it in " ".

4 Self plagiarism : just like the name imply it is the plagiarism you make as a result of copying you own work which was published and used it in another work without citing your source. If you think you can used your own work as you like without citing your source you should know you are wrong by now.

Having talked about plagiarism and the types of plagiarism, what should be done to make plagiarism work right?

Well let's look at some of the Etiquettes you should follow up when copying someone else's work.

Etiquettes

1Put copied text in double quotes " " or put Links to photos and text. E.g let take a look at this Direct plagiarism:

"Plagiarism is presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement". Source

You can see I only need to add the source and "" now I have acknowledge my source of information.
This will help my work to look more professional.

2 Always give acknowledgment to the original owner of a content.

3 Don't mixed content from different sources and claim it to be your own.

Conclusion

When you give credit to the original owner of a content, you make your work to look more professional and appealing to read or to look at .

I have read and understand the steemit etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to embrace them
