Achievement 2: Basic security on steem by @udesh

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago

Security means the freedom from, or protection against, potential harm (or other unwanted or preventative measures) taken to keep one's steemit account secure. Insufficient security in a steemit account may lead to discontinuity.

Various keys have been assigned to keep the steemit blockchain system secure and safe from hackers, including:

1). The active keys
2). Private owner keys
3). posting keys
4). Memo keys
5). Master password etc.

STEEMIT SECURITY KEY FUNCTIONS

1. Private Posting Key - Among all the keys available on the steem blockchain, this is one of the most commonly used. Steemians can use their private key to do things like post on the steem blockchain, comment on other people's posts, resteem, and upvote or downvote a post.

We must only use our private posting key if we use the steem blockchain's social media features.

And if anyone obtains your private posting key, they will not be able to withdraw funds from your account.

2. Private Active Key - The key to your money is the active key. Yes, someone with this key has access to your wallet and can move your assets with ease. As a result, you should always exercise caution when using your active key. You can never use your active keys on a public wifi network.

Even small school children nowadays will learn more from YouTube than they do from their textbooks. And I'm sure a lot of them know how to get people's usernames and passwords from public wifi.

3. Private Owner Key - Under no conditions can the owner key be used. You'll just need it if you've forgotten, lost, or compromised your account.

Yes, also on the steem blockchain, you can be hacked. However, it is not the fault of blockchain. Users are those that do not keep their keys in a secure location and instead send them to someone who is attempting to defraud them.

So, if you've saved your private owner key somewhere, keep it there until your key needs to be updated or your account needs to be reactivated.

4. Private Memo Key - The memo key is often overlooked by users, but it can be useful when you need to communicate privately with others. You would use your private memo key, for example, if you wanted to speak to your business partner about something that needed to be kept private. This will assist you in encrypting your message on your end and only decrypting it at the receiver's end.

5.Master Password - The password that was used to create this document's seed. This key should not be shared. It can be used to generate any steemit account key. It's primarily used to restore an account.

THE STEEMIT COMMUNITY'S IMPORTANT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS.

Question 1 - Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?
Ans: yes, I have retrieved all your keys on steemit.

Question 2 - Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Ans: Yes, I know all about the functions and restrictions of my private keys.

Question 3 - How do you plan to keep your master password?
Ans: I've already saved my keys on two portable storage devices and intend to keep track of them all in a diary. So that even though the storage devices get corrupted, I have a backup of all my keys.

Question 4 - Do you know how to transfer your Steem token to another steem user account?
Ans: Yes, I understand how to transfer Steem tokens from one account to another on the Steem blockchain. The most intriguing aspect of transfers is that the transactions appear on the receiver's account wallet transaction list in just 3 seconds.

There are a few steps to follow if someone wishes to move Steem tokens or SBD tokens to another steem account:

1. Go to https://steemitwallet.com

2. Now, besides the number, there is a dropdown menu; click that button to open the dropdown menu. Transferring Steem tokens to another steem account is the best choice.

3. When you select the “Transfer” option, a pop-up window will appear where you can enter the details of your transaction.

4. The “From” address is the first thing to note. This address is already filled because you are the one transferring funds from your wallet.

5. The “To” address is the second. This is the address where you should send your money. If you make a mistake when writing the receiver's username, they will not send you anything back until it has been transferred.

6. You'll write the sum of tokens you want to give to that user after you've written the receiver's username. It may be less or equal to the amount in your wallet. Of course, you are limited to sending just what you have. I assumed you were aware of this.

7. Finally, the memo field is used to explain why the transition is being made. It's not needed, but it's a nice way to explain why you sent the tokens to the user. The memo is needed in certain situations, such as when sending tokens to trading platforms. They'll know it's you who's sending them tokens this way.

8. After you've completed all of the preceding steps, press the send button to get your tokens sent to another steem account.

Question 5 - Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Ans: Yes, the most important of all is to increase your steem capacity. So you're unaware of the staking process that underpins the steem blockchain? Steem is a cryptocurrency that rewards you for engaging in blockchain-related activities. Staking your steem tokens is the process of transferring them to your steem power. Your tokens are locked for a period of time, but your blockchain authority grows because you now own shares in the steem business.

To boost your steem tokens, simply select the third option (“Power Up”) next to the steem token number. When this option is selected, a popup window will appear. However, since you're powering up your tokens in YOUR account, you won't see a receiver's address field here. It only requires the amount of power you want to increase. After you've entered the sum in the field, all you have to do now is press the Power Up button. You'll also have more resource credits in your name.
