ACHIEVEMENT 2 @thequill TASK: BASIC SECURITY ON STEEM

in Newcomers' Community4 years ago

Security is a human routine and activity that can’t be ignored nor compromised.
We all feel at rest and at peace once our safety is guaranteed.
It is an everyday activity that resonates in our lifestyles; either public or private.
Hence, steemit just like every other online platform out there can’t be an exception when it comes to securing its members’ privacies and activities.
As a newbie in the community, it is a rite of passage I have to go through, although I must confess, I found it boring, and too “techriptic” for someone like me that ain’t too tech savvy.
However, I have painstakingly read the basics and, I’m happy to share my experience.
So grab a bag of popcorn and a sit while I take you through steemit securities in my own world.

MASTER PASSWORD
I refer to this password as the mother of all passwords in steemit.
Taking a look at the pyramid picture depicting the community’s security hierarchical structure, the Master Password is my ‘’open sesame’’ to generating the remaining passwords.
The importance of this password can’t be over emphasized. It is top of the food chain as it is used in generating all keys for my account.
My master password should be well tucked in somewhere safe because losing it, automatically means I am roasted.

POSTING KEY
I guess it is explicit enough. It is the key that allows me to be actively engage in the blog sphere.
The key allows me to post, comment, edit, vote, resteem and carry out other activities.

ACTIVE KEY
This key allows me to carry out other tasks on the platform. Tasks like funds transfer, power up/down, converting steem dollars, voting for witnesses and updating my profile detail.
I however, discover that you can understand this particular key better, by practicing regularly.

OWNER KEY
I see it as a bulwark, a sort of last resort you know. One can call upon this key in terms of crisis, I refer to it as the ‘’go-to-guy”.
The owner key can be use to recover a compromised account. So, I’ll advise you to keep it safe and secured because you never can tell when you’ll need it.

MEMO KEY
This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.
Now, huh this is where it gets all fussy for me, like I said earlier, am not a fan of the tech world’s esoteric laden languages.
So I make it easier: The key is used to code or conceal and decode memos when transferring funds.

RED FLAG
Please keep all passwords safe, I would recommend in an offline mode. You know printed paper, or scribbling it down in a paper, flash drive for safe keep.
However, the master and owner key must be jealously guarded because they are the lifelines to recovering your account, just in case something terribly happens.

Guess there is nothing much to say here, but huh, have been indulging myself, trying to know how these codes work.
A shout out goes to my mentor @focusnow, he has been really supportive.
I’ll take a bow now, thank you @cryptokannon for making me do this, but, I must confess, am being forced to learn a field that I ain’t a fan and is good thing for me.
@cryptokannon, hope I tried?

Hi @thequill thank you for completing this task. We know its a bit boring topic but it's so important. If your account gets compromised, or you lost your master password you can't access your account anymore. Lots of steemian have gone through that predicament in the past and we don't want that to happen to our newcomers at the present.
Congratulations! You have passed the Achievement 2 on Basic Security, now please get ready for your post on the next for Achievement 3: Content Etiquette here
See you soon! 😊

@cryptokannon, thanks, am luving it here..just finished with my third task, done and dusted
