In Steemit, users can post everything they want such as phrases, quotes, blog and more. Steem users are expected to produce and share quality post with original content by using their brain. If a person produces posts that include content from other people's work, the person should give citation or source to that content and that is where content etiquette comes in.

Content Etiquette has to do with formal rules if correct behavior guiding the content that are posted by users of steem platform. If one fails to give credit to the owners of the content which he or she included in his post, this leads to plagiarism.

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. The goal of the plagiarist is to make it appear as if themselves are the source of the work.

Types of Plagiarism

(1).Direct : This is the word-to -word transcription of a section of some one's else,'s work without attributing credit to the author. It is also the use of a paragraph frm another source without a citation.

(2).Mosaic Plagiarism: This is the copying and pasting different pieces of text together to create a kind of,' patchwork' of the researchers ideas.

(3). Self Plagiarism: This means using parts of previous work without properly citing it .

How to avoid Plagiarism.

(1). Include quotation: This means using quotation marks around the text. It denotes that the words are not yours.

(2). Paraphrase: Paraphrasing is rewriting a source's ideas or information into your own words without changing its meaning.

(3). Citation:

When you lift a statement from someone's work word by word, it is recommended that you place it in quotation marks and cite the source of where the statement was taken from close to it.

Example:

It has been noted that oranges are good sources of vitamin C as well other vitamins and minerals. " A number of vitamins and minerals are found in oranges including vitamin C, thiamine, folate and potassium ". Reference

From the above example, you wil see that the first statement is an original content while the second is a statement lifted from another source and that is why it is placed I quotation marks and the source cited very close to it.

Finally, I want to say the following "I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit community and will do my best to embrace them".

I am grateful to @cryptokannon, @focusnow and @ngoenyi for their assistance.
