Achievement 2 Task: Basic security on steem @sallyelvis
Hello steemians, shout out to you all wherever you are. It's a delight to commence my achievement 2 task.
Security is any conscious activity carried out to avoid theft or any way to avoid whatever poses as threats to the success of our achievements.
As we all know, security is an integral part of any successful venture and as such keys are provided on the steemit platform to enable us keep our token safe and avoid violation or access to our space which could lead to theft or loss of our account.
HAVE YOU RETRIEVED ALL YOUR KEYS ON STEEMIT?
A resounding yes! I have retrieved all keys on steemit immediately I signed up and I was given my master key which I used to retrieve all my keys on steemit.com wallet.
DO YOU KNOW EACH OF THESE KEYS, THEIR FUNCTIONS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS:
Yes I do know my keys and how to use them very well.
The following are different keys that we have on steemit and their functions:
The Master Password: After signing up a new account, the master key helps generate other keys that is kept safe and used for transactions and recovery incase of account loss.
The Posting key: This key has several functions ranging from publishing a post or commenting on a post, editing on a post, it can be used for downvoting or upvoting, redeeming of contents, following people or muting accounts on the steemit platform. More often, the posting key is used to login to your steem account.
Active key: Active key is used for transactions such as transfer of tokens, power up steem or power down steem, it is used for convertion of steem dollars, voting for witnesses, placing an order or exchange and exchange or perform certain profile information. It can also be used to publish witness price feeds.
Owner key: This is a vital key as it is used to reset all the keys including the owner key , posting key and active key or to recover accounts and decline voting rights.
Memo key: Memo key is used to send an encrypted message or view an encrypted message.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO KEEP YOUR MASTER PASSWORD?
Because of its value, I keep my master password in a flash drive and code the file with a password known only to me so that it cannot be viewed by others and I also write it down in my private diary to avoid access by unknown persons.
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TRANSFER YOUR STEEM TOKEN TO ANOTHER STEEM USER ACCOUNT?
Emphatically yes and these are the steps to follow in achieving that.
Login to your steem account using your username and posting key as your password.
Click on your image at the top right of the page.
Click on wallet next to logout, this takes you to your steem wallet.
Sign in with your username and active key as your password and click on the login icon.
Upon logging in, click on the drop down arrow close to steem and select transfer, see the screenshot below
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO POWER UP YOUR STEEM?
Yes I do. Power up is a process whereby steem can be converted to steem power. This is easily done from the wallet environment and these are the procedures to follow with screenshot of my wallet
- When you click on the drop down arrow close to steem, Select power up
- Type in the amount in the box provided then click on power up.
