Achievement 6 task by @sagarc: Understanding Curation and community

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Greeting everyone,

As a new steemian, having come from achievement 1 to 5 has been a pleasent ride. I have been trying to present all my posts to the best of my knowledge that i have gained from pertinent contents and guidances provided on the steemit by the renowned members, developers, witnesses and greeters. So i personally extend my gratitude to @cryptokannon, @steemchiller and @justyy for putting all out there.

Having said this, let me be specific on my last but not least achievement task.

Voting and Curation

Hope we all want to make the best use of our votings. As we know that, the voting allows for the distribution of rewards to the users creating quality contents from the rewards pool. In doing so, the users who distribute the rewards get 50% of the rewards they distribute. The amount of distributed rewards depend on the possession of steem power. If you have more steem power, you can distribute more rewards, simple as that.

Since Dec. 2016, the steem network's 16th hard fork went into effect by creating new tokens at a yearly inflation rate of 9.5%. It decreases at a rate of 0.01% every 250,000 blocks which is about 0.5% per year. This will persist to decrease until the overall inflation becomes 0.95% which is about 20.5years from the start of 16th hard fork.

The new token distribution of the rewards pool initiated by funding the rewards pool itself by 75% of the new tokens, which is split between authors and curators. While 15% of the tokens are awarded to steem power holders, the remaining 10% are paid to the witnesses for doing incredible job by securing blockchain. But, with the beginning of 21st hard fork, the rewards allocation was slightly changed by funding only 65% out of 75%(previous allocation) of the tokens to the rewards pool and that deducted 10% was allocated for SPS/steem DAO.

Voting mana plays a pivotal role when it comes to the curation. Voting mana is initially 100% and every single vote we make uses a small amount of voting mana. Also, everytime we choose 100% strength vote, it uses 2% of your remaining voting mana.Nevertheless, the network keeps charging it by 20% everyday.

For those users below 500SP, you will not be able to access Vote Slider which helps you to adjust the weight of your voting between 1% and 100% of your voting strength. Untill then, either you upvote or downvote, you are using 100% strength.

Once you get above 500SP, you can adjust your voting strength with the help of Vote Slider. However, you must understand that voting by less than 100% strength means you are using less voting mana. Consequently, you will have a less influence in such scenario.

Like Upvote, Downvote is also linked to the mana pool which is only 25% of the upvote mana pool. It consumes this mana first before consuming the regular mana pool. Furthermore, users can downvote any posts if they find misleading by providing a reason for downvoting in a comment section.

The rewards are allocated in such a way that 50% of the fund goes to the author and the rest to the curator. We cannot deny the fact that a good content has to get a well deserving rewards. However, this might sometimes slip out of hands if we are not more considerate about the time frame after posting. Let me make it more precise by explaining what exactly happens when a user votes within 5 mins time-frame after posting.

If you vote right at the moment of posting, 100% rewards remain in the rewards pool.

At 1 min,

  • 20% goes to curator,
  • 80% remains in the rewards pool.

At 2 mins,

  • 40% goes to curator,
  • 60% remains in the rewards pool.

At 3mins,

  • 60% goes to curator,
  • 40% remains in the rewards pool.

At 4 mins,

  • 80% goes to curator,
  • 20% remains in the rewards pool.

Only, curator will be able to recieve 100% of the rewards if the cast is done after 5 mins.

To make your vote count, make a wise decision to who or what or when to vote so that you won't be regretting when you have to vote for the better content later on.

Steem Witnesses

In my opinion, the development and success of the steem chain mostly relies on their witnesses. Steem chain engages a group of witnesses to produce a new block every three seconds by using a consensus mechanism called delegated proof-of-stake(DPOS). i.e. the system gives you more votes if you own more Steem. They also act as governance body who are compensated with steem power for every block they produce.

21 witnesses produce 21 blocks in each 63 seconds round. Among which 20 are full-time witnesses, and the 21st position is shared by the backup witnesses. The steem chain schedules one witness proportionally to the amount of stake-weighted community approval they have.

As far as the voting witnesses is concerned, i have recently voted for some of the active witnesses. Some of them are @steemchiller and @justyy.

(a) Both are full-time witnesses producing blocks to run and secure the steem chain.

(b) Both are developers who have given us amazing tools steemworld.org by @steemchiller and steemyy.com by @justyy in order to perfom various tasks regarding our accounts in the steem chain.

Community Selection

There are a remarkable number of communities here on steemit. I think it is worth considering to join some of them that fit with your interest. So, some communities i recently joined are:

  1. Newcomers' community: This is the first and foremost community which i did join right after i was into steemit. It has the achievement tasks for all the newcomers to complete where all the necessery materials and resources are provided. I believe it would not have been possible for me to come this far without this community gaining the knowledge on crypto space.

  2. SteemitcryptoAcademy: As the name implies, this community might be all about the cryptocurrencies. It seems to me that the crypto space has taken the world by storm. So, it would be better idea to educate ourselves on crypto.

  3. World of XPILAR: There were some great photographs posted with in this community that were really eye-catching. Hope, by joining this community, i might be able to post some of my precious photos sooner or later.

And, one more thing, i have considered to present a task relevent to discord application as mentioned below:

"As a part of your task in this achievement lets see if you can say hi to me at steemingcurators discord server here is the link Steemingcurators discord link"
-cryptokannon.
