I am pleased to make my Achievement 3 post on Content Etiquette today. Before now,I have already completed my Achievement 2 post.

PLAGIARISM

Almost any type of article that one intends to write must have been written by another person. So what you do is to read it and pick a few points from it,add your own ideas and make your own article.

However,it is important to cite the original work or the sources of your information. You can also cite the sources of pictures too.

Failure to cite or reference the source(s) of your picture or text information is tantamount to Plagiarism.

PLAGIARISM is defined as the act of recopying, pasting, rewriting, all or part of another man's work without giving credit to the original author. It is a form of academic pilfering.

Plagiarism is an infringement to the copyright of the original author because the plagiarist claims ownership of the work which was actually done by another person.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

SELF PLAGIARISM
This is a situation where one copies or rewrites a post done himself or herself without proper citation. For example if I copy my old post on Steemit a d then present it as a new post.Such action termed Self Plagiarism.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
I term this type of Plagiarism a smart plagiarism because the plagiarist copies different portion of other people's post and then use it to form a new post.
Example one can copy the definition of a particular word from different sources and then combine it to form a post.

GLOBAL PLAGIARISM
This type of Plagiarism involves a plagiarist using a work done by his lecturer, teacher or friend and then publish it as though it were his/her work.

COPY AND PASTE PLAGIARISM
In this type of plagiarism. The plagiarist copies and pastes a portion of another person's work verbatim.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is highly prohibited here on Steemit. It attracts a heavy penalty or consequences. Here are some of them.

It can make one to be banned from posting on Steemit.

It can make one to lose his reputation on Steemit.

It can lead to downvoting of the Plagiarism post by any of the steemcurator accounts.

HOW TO STAY AWAY FROM PLAGIARISM
Always cite the sources of the information.

You can paraphrase the work in your own words.

You are use a Plagiarism checker to fine-tune your work.

Try to be creative and not to depend on other people's work.

CONCLUSION
I believe I have learnt about Plagiarism, the types and the Consequences and so I wont like to indulge in it.
