Achievement 3 by @meymeyshops: Task : Content Etiquette//25/05/2021
What is Plagiarism?
Steemit have a large heart in that everyone around the world is welcomed to make a living from the platform by authoring original publications be it a write-up, video or pictures. But when a user maliciously took contents belonging another person or a website and make use of such contents as if they were his/her own originality, the person has committed a criminal offence known as Plagiarism. He/she fails to give credit or acknowledgment of the source of such content therefore he/she is a thief.
The act of plagiarism could be a copying and pasting of a text, paraphrasing a quotation or lifting an image without adequately referencing or citing the source. Whether the person does it intentionally or by error, plagiarism is offensive and must be shunned.
Does this means that I am not free to make use of another person's work at all? Not at all! So what am I expected to do each time I made a research of a topic on someone else's work? I am under obligation to properly give credit to that source.
How far can a person plagiarized?
Some can commit this awful offence against themselves by reusing their old work to the present without referencing themselves. Say I made a post in the past year in Steemit but running out of new ideas, I went back to my old post, copy it and paste in my current page as if it is a new post yet I do not make any effort to cite such past work.
Some too may copy from their own website other than Steemit, paste same in their Steemit page without citing themselves. Steemit posts must be steemexclusive.
How to credit a primary source of information
If it is a quote, use the greater than symbol > at the beginning of the quote, eg:
The best free stock photos & videos shared by talented creators.
The source of the above quote is this
If it is an image, then use this format [Image source](insert the site link).
Example given below:
In the case of building on a complete or whole work of another author, you are to put reference at the end of your post or after the paragraph gotten from the said website by applying this format [Reference](insert site link)
See example below:
Reference
Conclusion
Plagiarism is very offensive, it devalues a work and so must be jettisoned for what it is - stealing. Thanking you immensely @cryptokannon for preparing this lesson for us Steemians to succeed.
Remarks from the main work:
"I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them"
My warmest regards once more,
@meymeyshops.
