Achievement 3 by @hansamali Task : Content Etiquette
Hello Friends!
I have completed achievements 1 and 2, Today I will be completing achievement: 3 on Content Etiquette as per my understanding.
Let's first understand what plagiarism is?
Plagiarism simply means copying or stealing someone else's work/data and pretending as its own. This usually happens when you are not aware of something you tend to copy it straight from the internet (not giving the proper right to the original publisher) this action is known as Plagiarism.
Not just copying someone else's work is plagiarism but also if you keep copying your own work again and again that's plagiarism too, as the data is already shared once.
Therefore the proper way of using data from the internet is by giving ownership to the original publisher.
What should you do if you need to add something on the internet?
You can simply use the data on the internet by adding citations. This means if you need to use the same exact paragraph, sentence, or image you can add the source to the original data you referred to.
Let's say I need to share this particular data from the internet. what I can do is copy the same exact paragraph and add the links to the original post. Therefore it won't harm the original publisher and there is no plagiarized content in the post.
As an example:
Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition.
source
There are four types of plagiarism.
- Direct plagiarism
As mentioned above. Direct plagiarism is to copy or steal the same what is on the internet without mentioning the original publisher as if you have published your own idea.
- Self-plagiarism
We have discussed this too. As you all may know, self-plagiarism is reposting your own data without recreating it. Even if the original publication belongs to you, you need to mention the source if you are going to republish the same somewhere else.
- Mosaic Plagiarism
This happens when you copy data from one source or several sources and if you try to paraphrase it. Sometimes you lose the track of your original idea and the sources that you referred to and then you end up copying the same on the internet just by changing a few words here and there. That is known as Mosaic plagiarism.
- Accidental Plagiarism
This happens when you accidentally miss adding the citation to the source you referred to, or you share the same idea without any intention of copy-pasting.
Hope I have covered everything about "What is plagiarism" in my post I have added the citation methods according to the citation markdown provided. Looking forward to completing achievement 4.
