Steemit Ethics on Plagiarism.

According to Oxford Languages, plagiarism Is "the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own." Source

Plagiarism is a type of intellectual robbery. It is the act or practice of picking up another person's idea and using the stolen ideas as if it was theirs. Without honestly showing that it was not his own.

Avoiding Plagiarism is evident of academic honesty, when a writer honestly acknowledge the source of his information.

Terminologies

The action of kidnaping another person's idea is Plagiarism. The person doing the kidnapping is called a Plagiarist and the material that has been taken without permission or stolen is called purloined material whereas the person it was stolen from is known as the source.

What can be Plagiarized?

Anything made by someone can be Plagiarized; an essay, a presentation, a speech, music, videos, photograph, a research project, anything with intellectual property value.
A tweet and a Facebook post can also be Plagiarized.

Avoid Plagiarism

Forms of plagiarism.

The most common forms of Plagiarism are:
-• Direct plagiarism
-• Patchwork plagiarism
-• Paraphrasing Plagiarism
-• Self-plagiarism,

In a direct Plagiarism situation, the complete work is copied and pasted word for word without making any adjustments at all.
A patchwork Plagiarism case is a situation when the Plagiarist collects ideas from different sources, brings it together to create their own work. Yet the original owners are not acknowledged.
In Paraphrasing Plagiarism, the idea is copied from the source but it is now written in words of the Plagiarist himself.
In Paraphrasing Plagiarism, the idea is copied from the source but it is written in the words of the Plagiarist and no acknowledgment of the source is made.
Self Plagiarism is that situation when a writer reuse his old work and Fail to mention that it is a reuse material.

Acknowledge Your Source

Quotations

In a quotation, we use quotation marks to seclude specific text, indicating that the text was "borrowed" from another author. Ten a link is attached to give credit to the source.

A proper combination of quotation marks and source link is the ethical way to stay away from Plagiarism yet enjoy the beautiful work of others.

Example of Quotation

"Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to you."
Aldous Huxley

Apply block-quote

Plagiarism is the use of another's work, words, or ideas without attribution. The word “plagiarism” comes from the Latin word for “kidnapper” and is considered a form of theft, a breach of honesty in the academic community.
