I will be starting with the meaning of plagiarism.
Plagiarism is defined by an Online english dictionary as the act of copying of another person's ideas, text or other creative work, and presenting it as one's own, especially without permission;
Plagiarism is considered a problem because it not only affect the original owner but also deceive the reader.
[Source](A Sharma, V Walia, M Gahlawat; Review: Plagiarism an Act of Unethics; PharmaTutor;2015;3(2); 19-24).
Reasons for Plagiarism:
Some students plagiarise when they are not familiar with proper ways of quoting, paraphrasing, citing and referencing so it's unintentional but it's not permitted.
Some persons plagiarism just to save time.
Students’ busy lives makes them vulnerable to the temptations of cheating’.
Some persons do it because of pressure from pear group and they see it as just following short cut and no offense committed.
Some persons sees it as a quick and easy way of getting their work done with little or no stress.
FORMS OF PLAGIARISM; there are so many forms of plagiarism but we will be considering few which includes the following;
i.Word-for-word plagiarism: In word for word plagiarism, a writers phrase or passage is copied directly from a publisher text without acknowledging the author.
ii.Plagiarism of ideas: This involve the reuse of an original thought of a writer from his/her work without dependence on the words.
iii.Plagiarism of authorship: This have to do with you putting your own name to someone else's work.
ACTS OF PLAGIARISM; let's look at some acts of plagiarism which are stated below;
a) when you copy someone's text and insert it in a paper without citing the owner of the work.
b) when someone copy the whole work of an author without citing the author.
c)this also include using the Internet to copy text or an entire work and insert it in a paper without citation.

Plagiarism is a great offence in the world today and in some countries like India it can be punishable by law to the extend of being jailed for this same purpose and also in Steemit, you can be flagged for plagiarism and be blacklisted if caught in this act of plagiarism.
EFFECTS OF PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism tend to discourage the original author of an article from creating more, because they don't get the credit that is due to them, and plagiarism also make individuals lazy thereby not seeing the need to creat their own content since they can always copy someone's work and in the long run, the world will be left with people who are less creative.
TECHNIQUES FOR AVOIDING PLAGIARISM;
To avoid plagiarism, this two things can be done and they include the use of paraphrasing and following of the rules that will be stated below;
Paraphrasing: you use books and article as a source of information from which you write so you have to learn how to pick the important points and write them in your own words. So you have to use paraphrasing the most in stating the important points and you should also explain the points, compare and contrast the views of different authors you have read, and add your own comments in your write up.
The rules to follow when copying directly from a text are;
You shouldn't copy part of a passage directly but if done, it shouldn't represent a large portion of your own work.
You can copy a very short part of a sentence which will be obvious to your reader but you have to cite the author.
You have to acknowledge or cite the real source of the part of the sentence you copied.
CONCLUSION
Plagiarism is a moral offense and has become a matter of concern to authors and due to the advent of internet which give access to unlimited free acticles, the chance to plagiarise has been increased. people can plagiarise knowingly or unknowingly but which ever way the case may be it is total unethical and is considered a moral offense against the real acticle author. detection of plagiarised acticle and punishment of the culprit is a good way to stop this act of plagiarism, both teachers, supervisors and admins are to play key role in the detection of plagiarised work, this should be applicable both in school, outside school and in a platform such as this(Steemit).
" I have read and understood the Steemit terms (rules)on Steemit Community and will do my best to put them into practice".
