Mahatma which means great soul was a name given to him because of his spirituality. He is also called the father of India mainly because of his efforts and the strategy he put in place to liberate the people of india from their then colonial master Britain.
Mahatma unique ability to organize the people of India to a nonviolent disobedience has been applauded worldwide by many leaders. His ability to get the whole of India to unite their minds in the fight against colonization, known as the person who single handedly fought for the freedom of the people of India to gain their freedom. Mahatma Gandhi was born of a middle class merchant family, got married an an early age of 13 years through an arrange wedding by his family. Few years later, his father died. Gandhi had promised to stay by his father till his last minute on earth, but unfortunately for him, he was more attracted to his wife and was making love to his wife when his father died. This was the first turning point of his life as he decided to have a bad attitude toward sexual intercourse which saw him later renouncing it. Gandhi later move to London where he studied law and practiced law for over 20years. One day on one of his normal travels in a train mahatma Gandhi experience a racist act from a white which saw him thrown out of the train with a first class ticket because the white refused to be in the same train with him. This was the main turning in Gandhi’s life. He later returned to India a complete change man, he was a stained Hindu and preached against British colonization. He invented his own spinning wheel for the production of home cotton thread in an attempt to promote India’s economy and boycotting the consumption of textile from London. He used fasting as a tool to drive his viewpoint to the people. During his days on earth, India saw its highest rate of violence between muslim Indians and Hindu Indians and because of this, he was assassinated on 30 th of January 1948
