in Newcomers' Community2 years ago

Good day Steemians, I have accomplished my achievement1&2 task and I hope to accomplish achievement 3 task which is on CONTENT ETIQUETTE.

WHAT IS CITATION?
Citation is a way of informing your readers/viewers that a specific piece of information in your work/post came from another source. It also implies allowing your readers/viewers to locate the original source's location.

How to cite:
Copy and paste words/sentences, then add a link to the page where the text is located, followed by the markdown method (>).A well-cited phrase or phrase should be in quotes, CITATION EXAMPLE is done under my Types of plagiarism.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

"Plagiarism is the act of taking another person's writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own. This includes information from web pages, books, songs, television shows, email messages, interviews, articles, artworks or any other medium."Source

To my understanding Plagiarism is taking credit for ideas from someone else without acknowledging them properly as the owner of the idea.

WHAT ARE SOME TYPES OF PLAGIARISM?
According to my understanding from Grammarly blog Source Some types of plagiarism are as follows;

Direct Plagiarism: This plagiarism occurs when a person copy and pastes another person's or author's ideas without proper attribution or acknowledgement.

Self Plagiarism:
This plagiarism happens when a writer copies and pastes his or her own previous works or phrases

Paraphrasing plagiarism: This plagiarism occurs when a writer borrows another writer's texts without quoting them or using terms that are closest in meaning to the author's words while maintaining the same format as the original.

Accidental Plagiarism:
This plagiarism occurs when a writer unknowingly copies texts from another author without realizing it.

SOME EXAMPLES OF PLAGIARISM ARE;

• Taking big chunks of words/text/phrases from a source and not citing it.

•Taking excerpts from a variety of sources, stitching them together, and submitting it as your own.

•Purchasing an essay or paper and submitting it as your own.

HOW CAN PLAGIARISM BE AVOIDED?

When writing your tasks, don't just use one source.Bringing up ideas from a variety of sources shows clearly that you have read widely and are able to form your own opinions based on your reading.Also,Avoid using cut and paste in electronic material because it encourages you to simply copy what you have read word for word.
