in Newcomers' Community3 years ago

Hello steemians, it is good joining this wonderful platform in the quest to complete my achievement Task series as well as acquiring the commensurate knowledge needed to handle subsequent tasks in the community. Having done my Introductory post a verified, join me as you read through my Achievement-2 task on Basic Security in Steemit.

Question 1
Have you retrieved all your keys on steemit?

YES, all the necessary Keys required for me to attend comprehensively and interact effectively with my Steemit account was well received and retrieved during my course of account opening. During onboarding when I must have entered my preferred Username, Email address and Mobile digits, the system automatically generated my Master Password which I in turn used in generating all other keys needed for my account. These other keys generated by the Master Password include; *Posting Key, Owners Key, Memo Key & Active Key. Also in this series is the *TRON Private Key.

Question2
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

YES, I do know the core function of these individual keys and what function they perform. I will briefly give us a brief overview of them;

  • The Posting Key
    This happens to be the frequently used key in the steemit community as most blogging activities are seen to depend heavily on its login. The Posting key enables the user to initiate and post articles from its blog to other communities, comment and respond to feed-backs in the community, follow and unfollow users, Upvote/Downvote posts, Broadcast and subscribe to communities in the platform. It is relatively a mild security level key that may not necessarily cause harm to one's funds if compromised.

  • The Owner Key
    Just as its name, the Owners key is the major and most sensitive key due to its ability to change every other key in the account including the Owners key. When an account is compromised, it is the function of the Owners key to doing a reset on the keys including the owners key. It should be preferably stored offline to avoid unprecedented account hijack.

  • The Memo Key
    This key is used in sending memos across the blockchain. With this key, users can encrypt and decrypt memos using the Memo key. In sending memos that are void of third party view, users can add the # sign before their message. This is left in secret only for the recipient's view.

  • The Active Key
    Another Sensitive key that can trigger transactions and any other financial transactions in the blockchain. With the Active key, users can log in to their wallet account, transfer funds from one account to another, Power-up or Power-down assets, move assets to other blockchain or exchanges etc. It is required that we safeguard this key so as not to get our assets compromised and hence loss of assets.

Question 3
How do you plan to keep your master password?

The Plan to keep my Master password and other Keys has been done already given to the need to maintain a safe account. The PDF file was downloaded into a hard copy and filed where I keep my documents, another soft copy backed up in the cloud/google as well as saved the Posting/Active key for now on my laptop for easy access. Though my laptop has a password lock that makes access to it unitary than public.

Question 4
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?

Transferring steem tokens from one account to another would be demonstrated using screenshots for more clarity. These are the steps to follow while doing this below;

  • You have to first of all Login to your wallet using your active key
  • Goto your Steem option and click on it for the drop-down
  • Click on the Transfer option from the drop own
  • Enter the steem Username, amount of steem and Memo (steem) in the respective columns and click on NEXT
  • Confirm this process by clicking on OK
