The word plagiarism seems to be a common term among people. However, a number of individuals still don`t have a good grasp of what this weighty word means, hence they end up falling by it day in day out. We may ask, what is plagiarism?

The word plagiarism has come from the latin word 'plagiarious' which means to kidnap. As the plagiarism definitation suggest, when someone uses the work of another artist without properly citing the source, then that will be an instance of plagiarism; a punishable offense, a form of intellectual theft. Source

In other words;

In other words; " plagiarism is presenting someone else`s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowldgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Source

What are the acts that are considered plagiarism?

How many of us really know all the act that are considered plagiarism? We may perhaps be finding ourselves plagiarising unknowly;

The following are considered plagiarism:
Turning in someone else's work as your own
Copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
Failing to put a quotation in quotation marks.
Given incorrect information about the source of a quotation.
Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not. Source

Like i mentioned earlier, plagiarism is a grave offense and attracts penalty;

most cases of plagiarism are considered misdemeanors, punishable by fine any where between $100 to $50,000 - and up to one year jail in the United State. Plagiarism can also be considered as a felony under certain states and federal laws. Source

You can be accused of plagiarism when you used someone else`s intellectual property without giving them full credit . It is criminal, it is stealing, and it is punishable under the law.
