INTRODUCTION

Hi steemians, I'm glad to come around and also make my Achievement 3 post. The achievement 3 post is about plagiarism and citation, types and how to avoid plagiarism.

PLAGIARISM

A post is termed plagiarized when the author directly or indirectly, tries to claim another person's work in order not to give credit to the original owner of the article, image, word line or whatever it may be.

In steemit plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and members involved in plagiarism are flagged.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism comes in types, all of these forms of plagiarism are not allowed here. Let's see the types;

  • Direct plagiarism:

This type of plagiarism is the deliberate use of someone's work, article, thoughts without using citations like the quotation marks or linking source.

  • Self Plagiarism:

Self Plagiarism come as a result of repetition of one's own writings, without alterations. This could lead to serious setback, when discovered.

  • Accidental plagiarism:

This form of plagiarism comes to play when an author or poster publishes an article without citing sources for their brought-in line, thoughts or ideas that are not theirs, it is accidental because it is unintentional. A poster may also include another person's line of words without knowing. It is still termed plagiarism.

  • Mosaic plagiarism:

Mosaic plagiarism is another form of plagiarism that occurs when a poster fails to replace words in a copied item.

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

However, there are ways we can avoid plagiarism. Any form of plagiarism can be avoided by the steps below.

  • To avoid plagiarism make sure to cite sources of contents that is not yours.
  • Proof read twice.
  • Use Duplichecker to check plagiarism. It is a Plagiarism checking website.

CITATION

Citation is a form of transparency that allows your reader to understand that the idea, or certain lines are not yours. It makes your work look neat and frees it from plagiarism. Citation can be a quoted, or using a mark down to indicator (>). Example of citation is shown below:

"Today it ends in a nightmare first 45 minutes for Arsenal!
Cedric gave away a penalty in the 22nd minute of the contest, Kane stepped up to dispatch, and then on it has been all Spurs." Source

The above is a live commentary of Arsenal vs Tottenham which I have used both the quotation""mark and the mark down (>) to cite that the commentary line is not mine.

CONCLUSION

Plagiarism is very dangerous and so I will advise my fellow users to stay away from it by always scanning their post with the Duplichecker before posting it.

I have read and thus, understand the seemit etiquette in steemit community and I hereby promise to abide to the rules and regulations stated therein.
