Hello Steem family,

It's a beautiful day, and I'm delighted to share my thoughts and research on plagiarism with you. This is required because Steemit, as a platform, is known for maintaining originality, and thus plagiarism is not permitted or tolerated.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Plagiarism is defined as the use of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. Depending on the institution, different definitions of plagiarism are used in educational settings. Plagiarism is regarded as a violation of academic integrity as well as a violation of journalistic ethics. Penalties, suspension, expulsion from school or work, large fines, and even imprisonment are all possible consequences. source

Examples of Citation

“As natural selection acts solely by accumulating slight, successive, favourable variations, it can produce no great or sudden modification; it can act only by very short and slow steps” (Darwin, 1859, p. 510). source

“ Claims of credibility and fittingness for this study are based on the following criteria: prolonged engagement, persistent observation, triangulation, and member checking (Lincoln & Guba, 1985).”source

WHY IS PLAGIARISM UNETHICAL?

Plagiarism is unethical for the following reasons:

  • It's unprofessional because it's stealing someone else's intelligence without acknowledgment... taking someone else's exact words, ideas, and work as if it were your own.

  • It's unprofessional because the plagiarizer profits from the steal later on.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  • Don't merely duplicate what others have done.
Rather of merely repeating what you've read, describe other people's ideas or results (using references) and their importance to your argument in your writing. In electronic content, avoid using the cut and paste option because it encourages you to just duplicate what you've read word for word. source

  • Make use of quote marks.
If you wish to cite a brief passage from another author verbatim, make sure to put the words in quotation marks to show that they are a direct quote. Direct quotes should be used rarely and should not have a lot of content in them. They should be employed when you're recognizing a major thought or indicating the source of a specific notion you're utilising. Remember that if you use someone else's ideas in your work, you must acknowledge this by citing them.source

  • Increase the number of sources you use is a good idea.

  • Use plagiarism checkers, examine your publications for plagiarized content.

  • Make up your own ideas.
