Greetings Great Steemians Special recognition to the admin and curators and to other Steemians.

I will be writing briefly on the Basic Security on Steem. Security is one of the most important aspect in any online platform, today as hackers take advantage of the negligence of internet users to either steal their information, identity and/or even money.

Having taken out time to read on the basic security on steemit which was adequately understood, Now we have a unique security system in Steemit that is made up of different keys that operate at different levels.

The reason for this is to ensure that your account have a strong security and can't be hacked easily.

TYPES OF KEYS IN STEEM AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

1. POSTING KEY:

The posting key is the lowest in hierarchy among the private keys. And can't be used to make any wallet-related decisions or functions.

So even if it is stolen in it can't affect the tokens in your account, however it should be kept safe. This key can be used to log in to various Steem-powered social networks as well.

The posting key is used for social networking functions like upvoting, posting, commenting, edit post or comment, downvoting and to mute accounts.

To see your posting key, go to wallet, click on keys and permission then scroll down and click posting key

2. ACTIVE KEY

The Active key is more sensitive than the posting key because it can be used for wallet-related activities. It is the next in hierarchy of private keys and should be kept safe because if stolen it can be used to make actions in your wallet.

The functions of the Active key includes; exchange and transfer of tokens, SBD conversion, power Steem up or down, place order on an exchange, vote for witnesses and create new user.

To view your Active key, go to your wallet, click on keys and permissions and then click on Active key

#####$ 3. OWNER KEY:

This is the most sensitive and important key among the private keys. It can be used to change the other keys and it also have the extra permission to recover your account if need be.
So this key should be handled with care and kept safe.

Other functions of the Owner key include to decline voting rights and to reset posting and active keys.

To view your Owner key you can use same process stated above for posting and active keys.

4. MASTER PASSWORD:

The master password is the password given to you during your sign up. It is called master password not key because other keys are generated from it. So it is highly sensitive and should be kept safe, possibly offline too as hardcopy and should be used only when necessary.

5. MEMO KEY:

The memo key is used to encrypt and decrypt private messages when transferring funds.

Please note that all these keys are important and should be kept secure especially the Master password.

I will also show how to transfer Steem from my account to another Steem account and how to power up.

Firstly I login to my wallet with my Active key.

Then I click on the STEEM arrow which then reveals a drop down menu, I then click on transfer.
