Achievement 3 by @Chikezie4l Task : Content Etiquette
Good day everyone. This is my achievement 3 post, task: Content Etiquette. I'm to write about plagiarism under this achievement task. Do well to pay attention, thank you.
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism refers to an act of stealing or copying a person's work or art and representing it as your own work that is done without the original owner's permission or knowledge.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
There are several types of plagiarism but we're going to be looking at a few of them. They include:
• COMPLETE PLAGIARISM:
This form of plagiarism is where a person completely copy's another person's work and presents it as theirs.
• VERBATIM PLAGIARISM:
Verbatim plagiarism, also known as direct plagiarism is an instance where someone copys another person’s work word to word and not representing it in quotation marks so as to show where it is gotten from.
• SELF PLAGIARISM:
This kind of plagiarism is also known as auto plagiarism. It occurs when a person copies a bit of words, thoughts or ideas off of his own work and uses the expression for another work.
• SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM:
This form of plagiarism is done by referencing articles that do not exist or is not relating to the quote referenced.
• ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM:
This plagiarism mostly occurs when we do not know how to properly paraphrase, cite, rephrase and quote a research work, art or an article. We often leave the work as it is and thus, it sums up to accidental plagiarism.
HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM?
They are as follows:
• CREDITING THE OWNER'S WORK:
Give credit to the person whose work you are including in yours. Use double quotation mark at the beginning and end of the phrase so as to prevent it from being verbatim.
• DEVELOP YOUR OWN IDEAS:
Develop your own ideas and thoughts while you use them in your works. Your words are unique to you. Don't copy other people's works or art. Build yourself and work on yourself so that you can enhance your thought process so that you can surpass and increase the domain of your knowledge.
• PARAPHRASE:
Paraphrasing refers to the representation of an idea or thought in our own words in a way that the original essence of that idea remains as is but still unique to us.
• MAKE USE OF PLAGIARISM CHECKERS:
There are many sites that offer plagiarism checker, while some are free, others need payment. These sites check your article or work and compares it with others on the web and give you a percentage of what is plagiarized and what is unique. By using these plagiarism checkers we can prevent plagiarism from being in our works.
• REFERENCING
Proper referencing of sources in your research paper or article would help prevent plagiarism
