I’m writing this article in completion of my Achievement 3 task post called Content Etiquette.
The focus of my achievement 3 post is on the Concept of Plagiarism, its types, and how we can avoid it as regards Content Etiquette.
WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
When it comes to plagiarism, many people tend to think of it as duplicating another person’s original idea. However, when viewed from this perspective, it alleviates the gravity of the offense.
According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means to use another's production without crediting the source.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
I will be listing 5 common types of plagiarism which include the following as below:
Mosaic Plagiarism: This type of plagiarism deals with paraphrasing someone’s work without proper citation. This makes it very difficult to detect because the plagiarized article is mixed up with many different sources.
Paraphrasing Plagiarism: This is the most common type of plagiarism and it is pretty similar to the first type of plagiarism above. However, the difference is that the copied work is not blended with concepts from other sources.
Complete Plagiarism: As the name implies, this type of plagiarism occurs when someone presents all the paperwork as his or her own without proper citation from the author.
Self-plagiarism: This occurs when one copy one's own writing intentionally or unintentionally.
Accidental plagiarism: This kind of plagiarism does not always occur intentionally. It occurs either when one copy another work and accidentally forgets to cite it or misquotes the source as a result of an error.
WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
Cite the source of any copied work.
Make a conscious effort of being original in any of your content.
Practice the act of accurate citation.
