Achievement 3 by @aisosa924 Task : Content Etiquette

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago

Hello Steemians! I hope you all are doing well.
Today,i will be completing my Task 3 as a newcomer in the steemit community. I am glad I'm making progress.

Every functional society or distinct population have rules guiding the actions of each member. Even before I was officially accepted into the steemit community, PLAGIARISM had been the first intolerable act of the community that was brought to my notice. Infact it came as a sound warning.

Plagiarism is simply copying the work of someone else and presenting it as yours without any reference or giving credit to the original owner of the work. Source

The work in the definition above as it relates to the steemit community could be original pictures taken, steemians posts, articles, drawings, poems and so on.

Imagine a scenario where a steemian posts a poem in a contest and another (plagiarist) hijacks the poem by changing the title of the poem and put his/her name on it. And for one reason or the other, the plagiarist get upvoted and earns money for the copied work.

This would be very unfair. It would discourage other users from steemit community and the newcomers from joining in the community hence hindering progress.

It is really great that steemit does not encourage plagiarism and even better it does not overlook it and has taken further measures to phase out plagiarism Mosquito Squishers

At times, plagiarism may occur unintentionally especially when one is new to writing. Now there are a few ways to avoid these mistakes. I will mention some like;
"1. Paraphrase
Paraphrasing is rewriting a source’s ideas or information into your own words, without changing its meaning.

  1. Present your own idea
    Instead of parroting the source’s ideas or words, explore what you have to say about it.
  2. Use a plagiarism checker
    There are several plagiarism checkers online, such as the one offered by Small SEO Tools. Grammarly also offers a plagiarism checker that scans your text for borrowed content for free."

Muting the member and Inability of the member to post are some of the penalties for plagiarism.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to learn, educate and carryout my achievement task.
