Achievement 3 by @abudooji Task: Content Etiquette.
Hey guys, today the task at hand is Content Etiquette, on which we are to talk about plagiarism. Let's start with the meaning of plagiarism.
What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of claiming ownership of someone's original work, idea, or words. It's an illegal act and one must restrain from such an act because it is practically stealing.
There are numerous ways one can practice plagiarism, but below are some of the common types of plagiarism.
Global plagiarism
Global plagiarism means taking an entire work by someone else and passing it off as your own. If you get someone else to write an essay or assignment for you, or if you find a text online and submit it as your own work, you are committing plagiarism.
Because it involves deliberately and directly lying about the authorship of a work, this is one of the most serious types of plagiarism, and it can have severe consequences.

Paraphrasing plagiarism
Paraphrasing means rephrasing a piece of text in your own words. Paraphrasing without citation is the most common type of plagiarism.
Paraphrasing itself is not plagiarism so long as you properly cite your sources. However, paraphrasing becomes plagiarism when you read a source and then rewrite its key points as if they were your own ideas.
Additionally, if you translate a piece of text from another language, you need to cite the source correctly. A translation without a source is still plagiarism, as you’re using someone else’s ideas.

Verbatim plagiarism (copy & paste)
You commit verbatim plagiarism when you directly copy text from a source and paste it into your own document without attribution. If the structure and the majority of the words are the same as in the original, then it is verbatim plagiarism, even if you delete or change a couple of words here and there.
If you want to use an author’s exact words, you need to quote the source by putting the copied text in quotation marks and including an in-text citation.
source
Mosaic plagiarism (patchwork plagiarism)
Mosaic plagiarism (also known as patchwork plagiarism or *incremental plagiarism) means copying phrases, passages, and ideas from different sources and putting them together to create a new text. This includes slightly rephrasing passages while keeping many of the same words and structure as the original.
This type of plagiarism requires a little more effort and is more insidious than just copying and pasting from a source, but plagiarism checkers like Turnitin can still easily detect it.

Citing incorrectly
The key to avoiding plagiarism is citing your sources. You need to correctly format your citations according to the rules of the citation style you are following.
If you don’t include all the necessary information or you put it in the wrong place, you could be committing plagiarism. Most styles require in-text citations plus a reference list or bibliography at the end of your paper, where you give full details of every source you cited.
Example of a correct citation (APA Style)
Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) concluded that attitude can best be described as a learned manner of reacting positively or negatively regarding a certain behavior.source
Plagiarizing your own work (self-plagiarism)
Self-plagiarism means reusing work that you’ve previously submitted. Even though it’s your own work, it’s considered dishonest to present a paper or a piece of data as brand new when you’ve already gotten credit for the work.
There are a couple of different versions of self-plagiarism. The more serious is to turn in a paper you already submitted for a grade to another class. Unless you have explicit permission to do so, this is always considered self-plagiarism.
Self-plagiarism can also occur when you use ideas, phrases, or data from your previous assignments. As with paraphrasing, reworking old ideas and passages is not inherently plagiarism, but you should cite your previous work to make the origins clear.

Causes Of Plagiarism
The culprits of plagiarism are mostly students. This is the case because they're mostly pressed with loads of exercises and they still want to get good marks without working so hard for it. But mind you, there are a whole lot of plagiarists apart from students. Below are some of the reasons why people engage in plagiarism;
- Ignorance. Some people engage in plagiarism because they are either unaware that one needs to cite or reference a/an idea, text, or image used which is not their original work but belongs to another person. Or, they have no idea of what plagiarism is.
- Laziness. There're a lot of people who intend on working hard on tasks at hand to achieve the desired results in life, but this mostly backfires simply because a lot of people entertain procrastination in their lives which leads them to either not completing the task at hand or taking someone else's work as their's, which is plagiarism.
- Insecurity. Insecure people (people who don't believe in themselves) usually doubt ideas or texts they produce will meet the desired mark, so they tend to prefer lifting one work vividly or editing them and makes it theirs. This will most definitely lead to plagiarism since they won't produce original works.
- Pride. Sometimes one's pride can lead to plagiarism. Some people want to stand out in everything they do, that's not completely wrong but sometimes can be unnecessary. This kind of people usually plagiarizes others' work since they'll be so proud to cite or quote the original owners of that content.
Ways To Avoid Plagiarism
- Always remember to give credit to the original creators of the contents used.
- Try to be self-dependent and hardworking to overcome insecurity and laziness respectively which will aid one in creating original content.
- Cite, Reference, or Quote all sources of your borrowed content.

@abudooji hello friend. We want original content here, since most of your post is cited from external websites. We want you to make your own analysis about plagiarisms. This way we can verify you. Friday, May 21st, 2021.

Hi there @psicoparedes. I respect your opinion on my post, but you'll agree with me that knowledge is vast, and borrowing some content with citation won't break a neck I guess, also I don't think my post is entirely cited from other sources. We'll both agree that there is original information in my post. But if you insist, then I don't really have much to say. Thanks for the heads up tho.
Peace.
Hello @abudooji, sorry for the inconveniences. 90% of your post is content cited from external webs. We agree the post has vast content, but not original. I will verify your achievement, but do not expect a high grade. I do not mean to bother, I am just trying to help you create good content based on proof of brain.
Please I will like to know why I completed 3 achievements and my reputation is still not increased. I'm a bit confused and need some explanation.
Thank you.
Hello @abudooji, your reputation depends on the amount of votes and rewards you have collected. The bigger the upvote, the bigger your reputation will go. Collecting many upvotes also helps, but they need to be worth something. At the end, for your reputation to increase, you need to collect GOOD upvotes
Thank you once again
I stop by to inform you that I have successfully verified your achievement. You can now continue with the program and perform your achievement #4, which is called applying markdown. Here I leave you the link to a publication about it, so that you can develop your next activity. Remember that the achievements' posts must be posted within the Newcomers' Community. Success for you.
Important information: remember that completing your tasks up to achievement #4 of the achievement program makes you eligible to be part of the support program for newcomers called 500SP Minnowsupport. I invite you to continue performing your other achievements.
Notes: none.
Thank you
