An Endangered Rural Custom: Majlis/Challisha/Jyapot

Hi! people
Assalamu Alaikum. I'm @shishir103 here to share a rural custom with you.You may know or not.

It’s known as majlis, challisha, jyapot. It’s organised after the demise of a person after 40 days. It’s mainly held in the rural area of Bangladesh. Mainly in the northern part of Bangladesh I don’t it occurres in the other parts of Bangladesh or not. Whatever it’s on the way of extinction. Its hardly seen nowadays.

It's organised by the family of the demised person with the help of his /her friends, keen, neighbours. People are invited to join and pray for him/her.later they are been appetized. Here you can see the people came after the prayer for the dish in a field.

People sit in rows. There are several rows. Sometimes they sit at the back of each other. There reamain distance between the lines so that the food can be served.

And yeah it’s the whole menu . Rice, Soup (Alur Dal) & Beef. Salt is also also served. It's optional. Most of the village people here eat extra salt with the dish. The taste of the foods were quite good.

Actually the experience is greater. People from distance assembles, it’s a public gathering, people see each other after long time, they can have a chitchat, people get a chance to socialize.
