Hello steemian today's contest is going to duel more on animal health . It has come to my notice that a lot of people love and cherish their animals and will feel bad to see thier animals in adverse health conditions like dystocia , shocks , retain placenta , mastitis , poisoning , ketosis , hepatitis to mention but a few . One question I want to ask is ! How would you love your animal if you dont know the health condition of that animal?? Absolutely it looks weird😥😥. Worry no more @arag11 joined this community whole world's dairy as part of my vertinary service to educate and enlighten farmers about thier animal health . Today we are going to talk about dystocia

Dystocia

is a condition in animals health which simply means the difficulties in giving birth . In some case giving birth will not be possible without assistance. In the case of a cow dystocia occurs when cow falls to calves within 8 hours , in ewes should lamb within 2 hours , mares (horses) should foal within 2 to 3 hours

Causes of this condition (dystocia)

1.Fetal presentation is a common cause of dystocia and typically with abnormal positioning of the limbs or head example is when head rotates up and ventrum of neck presented or head rotates down and dostum of neck presented .... correction of such as presentation may be necessary for delivery of the fetus. Correction usually entails or requires repelling the fetus into the uterus away from the pelvic inlet so that the fetus can be manipulated and the position of its limbs and head can be changed
2 . Excessive size of the fetus also can cause dystocia. This is common cause of dystocia in first birthing of an animal that is when a large animal is mates a small animal is obvious that the fetus will be very large and will cause dystocia even if the presentation is normal. In this case , excessive traction may be required to deliver the fetus and may damage the fetus and the dam as well . In this case we go in for caesarean section (surgery) .

caesarean section

Is necessary in some cases of dystocia to produce a viable fetus and preserve the reproductive capacity of the dam .

This pictures shows a caesarean section we carried out but Unfortunately on our part the fetus didn't survive reason being that the fetus was very big for the ewe to lamb and so it tried its best but the uterine muscles (uterine inortia ) was so weak to continue lambing even though the fetus was on a correct position, the famer reported these case late and so by the time they brought it to my place, the fetus had already dead in the uterus of the ewe and was decaying ..in fact i and my team were very sad about the death of the fetus and so i will advice farmers to be very careful with how they mate hybrid with small animals as it will be very difficultfor the animal during parturition.
It will be to my greatest wish that members in this community take very good care of their animals and also should report to the nearest vertinary clinic if they find ill health on their animal ..
