At what time is the Lalan Fakir fair of Kushtia held? How is it celebrated?
Lalan Mela was held from March 01-03. Besides, the 16th of October is Bengali 1st Kartika. Death anniversary of Lalon Saiji. On that occasion, a 3-day-long grand fair is held at Lalon Akhara in Kushtia, known as Lalon Mela. Lalan song event goes on all night. On these three days of the year, Lalan Akhara is crowded. Akhrabari's Lalan Shrine is decorated in different ways on the occasion of Lalan Mela. The main gate and shrine are decorated with white, red and blue lights, massive arches are constructed, and huge canopies are hung in front of the Lalan Mancha, which is set up outside the shrine on the banks of the river Kali. The Grameen Mela sits across the main road of Lalon Mazar around the discussion stage. At the fair, various kinds of household items, wooden family items, hot jilapi, fried leaves, CDs of Lalan songs, Genji, Shaan leaves, sugarcane syrup, hotels, Khai-Batasa etc.
How to go to Lalan Mela?
SB, Shyamoli, Hanif, Sohag, and Khalek Paribahan buses from Gabtali or Technical Junction of Dhaka run directly to Dhaka-Kushtia via Bangabandhu Bridge. You can take an auto rickshaw or rickshaw to get to Lalon Shah's shrine from Kushtia city. Also, many buses run directly from Dhaka to Kumarkhali. The bus will stop at Kushtia Mazampur from there. Any auto will be taken. The distance is 3 km!
From Kamalapur railway station, you can go to Sundarban and Chitra from Cantonment station. But in that case, you have to get down at the Poradah railway station near Kushtia and take a bus or autorickshaw to come to the city.
Where will Kushtia stay?
Various hotels are at Majampur Gate, Shapla Chatwar, NS Road, and Bara Bazar. Hotel Ajmeri, Pritam Hotel (Majampur Gate), Noor International. Barabazar Jubilee Hotel – Rent 350 Tk, double bed. Hotel Liberty – A.C. room 500-600 Tk. You will also find hotels in Mazampur and Bara Bazar for 100-200.

There are many restaurants to eat. You will find 3 Chinese restaurants, including Jahangir Hotel, Shilpi Hotel, Shafi Hotel, Hotel Khawa-Dawa, and Maubon Restaurant.
N.S. You can eat Alu Parata at Maubon Masala on the road; the price is 70 taka. Good breakfast is available at Shishi Bakery on the same street. The Kitchen Hotel at Chaudhas Mor is also good. Jahangir Hotel in Majampur. For budget travellers, there is the upmarket Gandhi Hotel, Maubon.
