Greetings to you, my Steemit friends, and welcome to @jasminemary post. I am happy to have you here, and I am so glad to participate in the contest that is organized in the Steemit Philippines Community, about which I have discussed "The Power of Social Media."
How old are you when you start engaging in social media and how was your experience so far?
I was 15 years old when I started engaging in social media. Precisely, it was in 2018 that I began chatting on Facebook, and my experiences so far have been good and bad. While changing on Facebook, what I was interested in was getting more likes on my pictures and chatting with new friends.
Sometimes I will forget the work that I am supposed to do and spend my time chatting on Facebook with friends. As a lady, I was convinced several times by some of my male friends who were inviting me to their place. Some have been preaching love to me and even promising me gifts, etc., but I have never paid any of them a visit till this moment. Although I am not that active on Facebook, the only social media on which I am active is Steemit, WhatsApp, and Tiktok.
In your opinion, what is the right age for people to have access to social media?
In my opinion, the right age for people to start having access to social media should be 18 and above. The age of 18 is considered adult, meaning the person can decide what is good and bad for him or her.
There is a lot of bullying taking place on social media, which is never advisable for someone under the age of 18 to have access to. A person that is below such an age will lose focus on his or her study and can't decide what is good or bad for her. He or she can be easily convinced.
What can you say to people who are no longer responsible for managing their social media accounts?
Well, such types of people that are no longer responsible for managing their social media accounts are those influential people that leave everything for their PA to handle. My advice to them all is that before a post is updated on their social media pages, they should ensure that they have reviewed the content of the post and its impact on society before approving the post.
Share your ideas on how to properly manage a social media account.
To me, the best ideas on how to properly manage a social media account should focus on providing the basic information that is needed for people to know who you are and what you do. A lot of people only create their social media accounts with just a few pieces of information like a username and password, so at the end of the day, you will get to see more than 10 social media accounts bearing the same name without knowing which one is legit.
What do you think our future will be with this social media power?
Well, our future will be brighter with this social media power because it will make communication very easy. With this social media power, we will have the opportunity to pass information to the masses much faster and easier than going to a radio or television station to broadcast information.
Give the advantages and disadvantages of social media in your life.
Using social media platforms in my life has brought so many benefits and disadvantages, which I have stated below.
Advantages
- It has brought some contection to me by knowing some good friends.
- I have improved my mood for communication.
I have learned a lot from people in other parts of the world. - It helps me earn some money via the posting of posts and videos.
Disadvantages
- It corrupts my mind somehow and makes me lose focus.
- It is time-consuming.
- Cyberbullying
What are the most commonly used social media platforms in your country? and categorize it.
The most commonly used social media in my country are listed below.
- Tiktok
All of them are categorized as centralized social media platforms. Indeed, I am so happy to present my entry, which I also want to invite my friends @yakspeace @temitopef, and @roomi to also join.
True enough that the use of social media has advantages and disadvantages. We as user of it should be responsible on how to use it properly.

I used to think that 18 is the right age for people to use social media but with the question mark on my mind.
But now it's different, I'm still thinking about what age should the people using social media. But what I have in mind now is 16 or 12.

Browsing your participation I see that you highlight the importance of the responsible use of social networks and I support you with it. The bad thing is that this is not fulfilled as the platforms say. First of all because there are many minors involved and not because of them, but because of their parents who are not aware of what their children do on the internet in general.
It has always been said that education is obtained in schools, but education comes from home. So, education is failing abysmally and all over the planet.
Then people want to attack these platforms because minors are being harassed or worse. It is an issue of much to cover.
In my experience, they have been an excellent tool for my profession and now, with tokenized social networks like Steem, things are getting better.
