Steemit Philippines:The Lapu-Lapu Shrine, Mactan Island 500 years Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines
Good day everyone!Hope you are good and safe.I am truly grateful for this day to share one of the story this year 2021, is a 500 years of historic here in Cebu Philippines it's called THE LAPU-LAPU SHRINE, MACTAN ISLAND.This is my 1st post in Steemit Philippines community.
Mactan is the improbale site of one of the defines moments in the Philippines history.It was here on 27 April 1521 that Ferdinand Magellan wa fatally wounded at the hands of chief Lapu-Lapu.The event is commenorated at the Mactan Shrine on a stone plinth bearing the date Magellan was felled.
The Mactan Shrine, located on Mactan Shrine, located on Mactan Island, just of the coast from Cebu City, is a must see for everyone interested in Filipino history.It commemorable the Battle of Mactan that took place in 1521 between the spanish and the Visayan central Philippines native people in April 1521 and along with paintings and plaques about that battle, it also contains two other important shrines the Lapu-Lapu Shrines and the Magellan Shrines.
The Lapu-Lapu Shrine is a 20 meter (65.5 feet) high, bronze statue of Lapu-Lapu (circa 1491-1547 AD), the Filipino worrior king who commanded the native forces that fought the invading Spanish forces in the Battle of Mactan in 1521 and killed their leader, the navigator Ferdinand Magellan.The Lapu-Lapu statue is said to be on the exact spot where the battle was fought and where Magellan was killed.
The statue shows Lapu-Lapu holding a sword in on hand and shield on the other these two weapons are said to have been used by Lapu-Lapu in his combat with Magellan.
When Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines in 1521, he took possession of the Philippines in the name of Spain.
After early friendly encounters with the rojahs of the Island of Homonhon and Cebu in the Central Philippines, Magellan and his men faced off against Lapu-Lapu and his warriors in the Battle of Mactan(Kadaugan sa Mactan).During this battle the Spanish burned a village of the inhabitants of Mactan.Magellan was then killed by Lapu-Lapu.
Every year they always celebrate, they have different show like band, dance, singing, and fire works , this pandemic they celebrate also but less people cause they are following the protocol minimize people to gathered.Me and my live-in partner , also his cousin we are visited in the shrine, we are enjoying look around and having fun to pictures.I want you to all here in the Philippines especially here in Cebu to invite you to come in Mactan Shrine.I hope you enjoy my blog here in steemit Philippines community in my flatform.
