Beautiful Bromeliad!

Hello beautiful Steemians!
I have another flower to share to you. It's called a Bromeliad. Do you have this in your garden or maybe your mom has this on one of her plant collections.
While doing my search about this beautiful plant. I found out that this plant belonged to the Pineapple family. I remember my grandmother has this plant when she was alive back then.

This is another flower from my friend's flower collection found in her garden. The climate in her home is cool because they live near the forest area in Subic Bay so all her plants are really growing healthily and beautifully. Plus of course she has a green thumb, she takes care of them like they are her children.

It is believed that Bromeliads first existed in Cretaceous era around 65 million years ago. Fossils have been dated at 30 million years ago, thus confirming their reputation as some of the original inhabitants of the planet. How cool is that!
Just so you know, the Cretaceous period followed the Jurassic period so this plant thrived. Imagine this plant is older than all of us.... haha.

What does the Bromeliad symbolize?
Incas, Aztecs and Mayans used almost every part of the plant for food, shelter, fibers and ceremonies. As a result, the Bromeliad is viewed as a 'gift from the gods' in these countries. As a houseplant, Bromeliad represents 'protection': a reference to the full, green foliage that surrounds the beautiful colored part. (source: google)

What I love about this plant is its blooms, it lasts for extremely a long time like for many months before it withers. Each plant blooms only once but the mother plant will produce new plantlets called “pups” allowing your bromeliad to be constantly in bloom, even once the original plant is done flowering.

If you wish to have fresh air in your home plant Bromeliad's.
While most common indoor plants purify the air during the day, bromeliads release oxygen and remove air pollutants during the night. The Plants for Clean Air Council suggests that when combined with foliage plants, bromeliads can help provide around-the-clock indoor air purification.

Imagine, you have your own natural, no cost air purifier. Wooo hoooo! How does it get any better than this.
So let us all plant Bromeliads now, specially with the covid virus lurking around this plant would come in handy.
