[#Club100] What Would Steemit School Look Like? How Would It Work? #burnsteem25
Namaste Steem Family,
How would you feel if you were offered the opportunity to get paid for going to school?
Let's be serious about this for a moment and ask this question to ourselves. What kind of effects could this have on the educational experience of students?
In my experience as a student, I felt that in order to receive an education (not even the best one), I had to give tangible value up front to the school. However, in the end I was left feeling that the tangible value I had given to the school was not repaid to me with the same degree of satisfaction.
As students, it was almost inevitable that we would be deeply involved in taking notes and memorizing topics that were never going to be used by us in any way in the future. These topics were forcefully memorized just for the sake of us being able to pass our school exams and to be able to recall them later in life.
As far as I can tell, other than passing exams, we didn't gain any benefit from memorizing these topics, now as I think about my time as a student I often think that the hard drive with a capacity of one terabyte would have been able to memorize that data better than an exceptional student would have been able to, and store it for a longer period of time.
Why was it that we were forced to memorize simply what a hard drive would have been able to do much quicker for us? We have Wikipedia, YouTube, Udemy, and so many other sources through which we are able to obtain information about anything, whenever we want.
I think that if we had invested our time in learning a skill that was in demand rather than learning the dates that we were being taught through a history lesson, in retrospect, we would have been better off in the long run, since we would have been able to use those practical skills in the future.
As a member of Steemit and an educator, my goal is to improve the educational system
One of the main inspirations for me has been to try to visualize a world in which learning practically, developing new ideas, and creating things actually creates tangible value in the present day.
In my opinion, we should not send young people out into the world with such a large amount of debt already piled up in their wallets. I think it would be contrary to our desire to see a world where young people have a surplus of practical skills, helpful resources, and meaningful relationships to be able to use in the future.
In my utopian idea, schools are a place where educators are much less concerned with enforcing the 'sit and repeat after me' method of teaching (which has become increasingly obsolete with the advent of technology) and much more concerned with encouraging students to participate in the practical learning, to collaborate with each other, and to experiment with their learning in the classroom.
I believe that this is already happening in some private schools, but I would like to see it happen more widely, especially in mainstream schools, since this is a very important issue that needs to be addressed more widely.
The Value Of Money: Understanding It's Importance
As a result of the current education system worldwide, students are encouraged to make major financial decisions before they even know the value of money, and this is probably the biggest problem in an education system.
A great deal of encouragement is given to students to take out student loans at the time when they are 18 years old, so they can invest thousands of dollars a year that they do not have, and be ready to deal with the consequences of their decision when they graduate from their chosen school four years later.
Unfortunately, the majority of 18-year-olds do not seem to have a clear understanding of the value of money or how to use it in a productive manner, as a result of this lack of understanding, which is unfortunate.
During elementary school, middle school, and high school, students are constantly in class, which prevents them from getting a taste of what life is like in the real world since they are perpetually in their classes.
Steemit: The exchange of value in real time
This is why I realized that as I thought about Steemit and the way we exchange value on social media today, I also realized that we can help students exchange value at school in the same manner, and not only will this help them understand the value of money, but it will also prepare them for the future.
As a part of the curriculum of this new system, students are encouraged to try out new things, as well as to learn about saving their earned money, investing in different fields, donating to the needy, and so forth. There is no better way to encourage them to try and learn new things than by doing this practically.
My personal belief is that the best way to learn anything is to actively engage with it, immerse yourself in it as much as possible.
In order to provide students with the opportunity to create their own financial ecosystem, the opportunity should be given to them, for them to make mistakes and learn from them as early in life as possible, allowing them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of one of life's most important elements at an earlier age: the creation and the transfer of value.
