Family planning is a deliberation by couples about the numbers of children they will have, they can decide also not to have children and also the age they would consider to have children.
What is family planning and what are the benefits of family planning for individuals and society?
Family planning is an action of using certain strategies with the aim of maintaining reproductive regulations with the desire to know when and how often to plan to have children.
They are certain things that play different roles on family planning decisions, there are;
- career
- marital situation
- work consideration
- financial situations
Family planning has given several benefits (advantages) that impacts individuals, communities, societies and couples. Here are some benefits.
- health and well-being of mothers gets improved.
- it promotes economics stability for families (here couples budget their resources to meet their children's needs) and entire communities.
- enhances educational prospects (lass/spaced birth gives room to focus on a child, there by giving an improved access to education.)
- ability to empower women, giving them the free will to take control of their reproductive health.
- impact environmental sustainability by regulating population growth.
- decreases infants and child mortality rate.
How does family planning contribute to sustainable development and environmental conservation?
From family planning, there's prevention of unwanted births which helps to slow down population growth rate and these leads to passive community development.
It helps with effective distribution and conservation of natural resources, which includes more jobs, sufficient health care facilities, sufficient number of schools and sanitation facilities and other environments and economic benefits.
What are the different methods of family planning available and how do they work?
There are various methods for if used properly it can be effective;
- Hormonal medication and devices: here, hormones are used to prevent ovulation or alter some changes in the cervix and uterus. There are medications that are used daily (short acting) and some are inserted into your uterus or arm(long acting).
- Barrier methods: this method blocks sperm from going up to the uterus and its used when you have sex. The use of condoms are effective here.
- Fertility awareness: this method uses a natural way to prevent pregnancy.
- Sterilization: to permanently prevent pregnancy surgery is done, here it can be male or female sterilization method.
