Healthy Vs Unhealthy Habits


Lets start by getting on the same page concerning what constitutes a habit. We are here looking at a parttern of behavior that is often acquired and performed repeatedly and subconsciously. Often gradually built over time and hard to break.
Some of this repeated actions of ours promote good health while others results in deteriorating health. As such, I will be writing on some of this habits. I am greatful to @aaliarubab for organizing this opportunity and will love the following Steemians to also express their thoughts. 👩‍⚕️What are some things you do daily that make you feel healthy and strong?" (Healthy Habits)

Getting enough sleep
To have a good reset and adjustment of most of our functions for optimal operation, we need enough sleep. And that is about 7 to 9 hours of night sleep for an adult.
Enough sleep boosts cognitive performance and concentration, putting us In a good mode with an improved immune system.
According to the article Brain Basics: Understanding Sleep "Your brain is actually very active during sleep doing important things — it’s not just resting And if you don’t get sleep you don’t function on a number of levels the way you should.”

Drinking enough water
Being properly hydrated is important for many functions in the body, including digestion of food, circulation of blood, and temperature regulation. To drink enough water is just as important as you getting enough sleep. It helps detoxify our body makes better skin. Mayo Clinic believes that a man should drink 3.7 liters of water while a woman should have like 2.7 liters per day

👩‍⚕️ What are some unhealthy habits and why they are harmful for a healthy life?

Not getting enough sleep
It is unhealthy to sacrifice your sleep for whatever reason: work, academic or pleasure. Not having sufficient sleep also known as sleep deprivation has wide ranging and serious health effects, from having impact on mental health, reduced immune functions, obesity, homonal imbalance and other effects.

Alcohol abuse
Drinking too much alcohol is an unhealthy habit that can damage organs, impair our judgment and even lead to death in an extreme cases.

Engaging in extreme-sport
Extreme sports are sporting activities that involve a very high amount of risk and thrill. Some examples of most popular extreme sports are skydiving, rock climbing, snowboarding, dirt biking and mountain biking. This activities can often result in serious accident.

Other poor habits that are detrimental to health are,
• Having a sedentary lifestyle
• Not maintaining proper hygiene
• Not practicing safe sex
• Overeating
• Not receiving regular dental check-ups

👩‍⚕️ "Could you share a time when doing something healthy made you feel really good?"

Making sure i get sufficient sleep on a daily basis proved very helpful as it improved my memory and recollection. This I did after noticing the effects of sleep deprivation.

👩‍⚕️ Could you share a time when doing something unhealthy made you feel really bad?

Not having plenty of sleep resulted in sleep debts that almost got me into an accident. Sleep can take over forcefully at time. If I was working with a power tool, it could have had very bad results. I can also recall that I easily got Ill and was overly affected by stress.
