"Gum diseases
Hello Steemians, welcome to my post, and a happy new month to you
🦷 1.- Do you know what periodontal disease is?
Well, I know little about what periodontal disease is. I know about periodontal disease as a gum disease that surrounds and supports the teeth. It is an inflammation and infection of tissues around our teeth.
It is a disease that begins as gingivitis, which causes bleeding, of gum, swelling, and redness if it is not treated immediately it can process further to become periodontitis where our gums can pull away from our teeth, leading to tissue and bone loss which might cause us to lose our teeth.
🦷 2.- Write some of the causes of periodontal disease
Some of the causes of periodontal disease are;
Poor Oral Hygiene: When a person doesn't brush his or her teeth often it can cause periodontal because not brushing of teeth can lead to infection of gum inflammation.
Plaque and Tartar Buildup: This is a bacterial film that occurs on one tooth which if it is not removed immediately can cause periodontal.
Nutritional deficiencies: Lack of eating essential nutrients like vitamin C impairs gum health and increases infection.
Hormonal Changes: Menstruation, menopause, puberty, and pregnancy can make one gums more susceptible to periodontal disease.
🦷 3.- You can tell us how periodontal disease is classified
Periodontal disease is classified into several types and stages based on how serious the disease is which below is how it is classified.
Gingivitis This is the starting point (earliest) stage of periodontal disease which is limited to Inflammation of the gum without affecting one bone. The Symptoms during this stage are; swollen, bleeding gums, and red.
Mild Periodontitis: This is the stage where the infection starts to affect the bones that support our teeth. The symptoms during this stage is that the gum may begin to recede, forming small pockets around the teeth.
Moderate Periodontitis: This is the stage that involves more tissue and bone destruction. The symptoms during this stage is that the gum may pull away from the teeth creating larger pockets.
Advanced Periodontitis: This is the most severe stage, where significant bone loss leads to the loosening of loss teeth. The symptoms during this stage are deep pockets m, pus discharge, and severe gum recession.
🦷 4.- How can we prevent periodontal disease?
We can prevent periodontal disease by maintaining good oral hygiene and adopting a healthy lifestyle practice some of the things we can do to prevent periodontal disease are:
- Brush and teeth regularly and properly.
- Floss daily
- We can use an antimicrobial mouthwash
- Regular dental checkups and cleaning
