I am @isha-rehman from Pakistan.welcome to my post. I hope everyone would be fine and i am also fine by the grace of Almighty Allah.Today i am particaipating in the contest of Healthy Steem community and this contest was organized by @helengutier2 .The topic of this contest is "Gum Diseases".

Do you know what periodontal disease is?

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums and also bones that can be support our teeth. It is starts with a gum inflammation known as the gingivitis where the gums may bleed during a brushing or flossing. If it untreated it can be worsen and leading to more severe infection and a tooth loss.

Causes:

This disease is often happens because of a plaque and a sticky layer of bacteria on our teeth. If the plaque is not removed through daily brushing and flossing then it is hardens into tartar which can harms the gums and teeth.

Symptoms:

Common signs include the red or swollen and bleeding gums or bad breath and also loose teeth.

Prevention

Good dental like a brushing twice is a day or the flossing and visiting the dentist is regularly can help to prevent a periodontal disease and it keep your mouth more healthy.

Write some of the causes of periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is often known as gum disease it is mainly caused by poor oral hygiene. When we do not brush and floss properly then plaque is sticky film of a bacteria and builds up on our teeth. If not removed then the plaque hardens into tartar which can be lead to gum inflammation and then infection.

Other factors are also increase the risk of the periodontal disease. Smoking or using a tobacco is the weakens of the immune system that can making it harder for the body to a fight gum infections. Genetics it is also play a role as some of the people are more prone to this disease due to the family history. Additionally the health conditions like diabetes make people more vulnerable to the gum issues.

Stress or poor nutrition and a certain medications that can reduce the saliva flow can also contribute to
the periodontal disease. Together these factors can create an environment where harmful bacteria can be thrive or damaging the gums and teeth over time.

Can you tell us how periodontal disease is classified?

Periodontal disease is generally classified into two main stages:
gingivitis and periodontitis.

Gingivitis

This is the mild early stage where the gums become red or swollen and may be bleed easily especially during a brushing or flossing. Gingivitis is the reversible with proper oral care and a regular dental cleanings.

Periodontitis

If the gingivitis is untreated then it can progress to periodontitis. In this more severe stage the infection is spreads to the bone and connective tissues that is support the teeth. Small pockets may form between the teeth and gums that is trapping bacteria and worsening the infection. Over the time this can cause the bone loss and may be lead to the tooth loss.

How can we prevent periodontal disease?

Preventing the periodontal can mainly involves for practicing a good oral hygiene. Brushing your teeth twice in a day with the fluoride toothpaste that can helps to remove the plaque before it is hardens into the tartar. Flossing daily is also essential and as it is reaches the areas between the teeth where it is a toothbrush can not.

Regular dental check ups and the professional cleanings are crucial as a dentists can remove tartar build up and that detect early signs of gum disease. Eating a balanced diet to supports gum health while that is avoiding sugary snacks helps prevent plaque of formation.

Lifestyle choices like not smoking or using tobacco also can reduce the risk as the tobacco weakens the immune system and it making it harder to fight the infections. By combining these habits you can keep your gums healthy and that is greatly lower the chances of the developing periodontal disease.
