SLC S21 Week 4 - Herbal Remedies for Energy, Pain Relief, and Mental Clarity.

Hi friends, I welcome you to my blog. It's an interesting moment to participate in this week's learning engagement challenge on "Herbal Remedies for Energy, Pain Relief, and Mental Clarity," by @afzalqamar
Nature has blessed us so much with plants which are used to cure, give remedies and solutions to man's problems. These herbs take various forms and are used in various ways; they could be leaves, power, stem, roots, seeds, oil, etc. And then, it can be used or taken as tea, food, a substance robbed on the skin, that's inform of oil.
Tea
Tea is usually in liquid form. Stems, roots, bark, leaves, or seed can be used as tea. Whether it's in powdered or whatever form it takes, tea can be taken either hot, warm or cold, or whichever way one prefers to take it, it is still effective.
Food/seeds
Herbs can be added to food or directly eaten as food. Either food or seed, they could be fresh or dried pertaining to the season or purpose it will be used for.
Energy Boost Tea or Powder: Create a tea or add a powder (like ginseng or ashwagandha) to your drink for energy and write about its benefits. (2 Marks) |

Due to our region, I couldn't find the recommended herbs but, I found a substitute for them.
For an energy-boosting drink, I made use of cassava flakes. This is mostly consumed by Nigerians. Cassava flakes are made from cassava and its preparation is as follows, though I used the already made one for this class.
Procedures
- Peel the cassava
- Wash and crate or blend it
- Pour it into a light cotton bag or fabric
- Squeeze out the water and press till it's dried
- Use siever to sieve it
- Pour it in a pan and stir continuously till it's dried, then the flakes are ready.
Note: You can add some drops of palm oil while frying the cassava (optional).
For energy-boosting tea;
I poured a small quantity of the flakes onto a plate
I added water, left it to be soft, then used a spoon to turn it well till its smooth.
Add milk and sugar or maybe some drops lime juice and ginger (optimal)
Then, finally, the energy-boosting drink is ready. You can drink it at a time or use a spoon to scoop it little by little till it's finished.
Note: not to be taken so much at night, it causes frequent urination if taken excessively

- The mixture strengthens a person.
- It supplies immediate energy to the body.
- It is a source of starch and carbohydrates. That's why it's very effective at boosting energy.

Pain-Relief Oil: Make an oil for the pain relief by using herbal ingredients and describe how it helps with pain. (3 Marks) |

For this purpose, I made use of four ingredients.
Black kennel oil: this is gotten from boiling some peeled kennel on heat till it brings out the black oil.
Coconut oil
Shea butter oil
A slice of tumeric
Firstly, I poured the palm kennel oil into a smaller container since I use it for other purposes. For the purpose of pain relief, I poured a little portion into a container.
Secondly, I added coconut oil to the container. After that, I melted shea butter oil and poured it in the same mixture inside the container.
Lastly, I cut a little piece of tumeric and added it to the mixture. The tumeric will be removed the following day. This is because of its anti-inflammatory agent.
Benefits
The combination of the three oils is very effective in the relief of pains and swelling because of its anti-inflammatory content. It is very effective for arthritis, rheumatism and muscle pains.

Mental Clarity Remedy: Make a herbal remedy for the mental clarity from the herbs which are commonly found in your area. Write down its benefits for the health and how it helps in mental clarity and why? (3 Marks) |

I picked two herbs which are very effective for mental health but will be making a mixture of one while the other one can just be eaten (chewed).
Tumeric
- Research has it that tumeric is very effective for mental health as it contains curcumin. This compound is said to be effective in reducing stress, negativity, anxiety, depression. This also has the ability to improve one's feelings.
- Tumeric, being an anti-inflammatory herb, is said to reduce inflammation in the immune system which is linked to depression.
- Tumeric is also said to boost dopamine and serotonin levels. These are hormones which control people's moods and behaviour.
However, a study has it that tumeric can reduce cortisol levels in the body. This can cause people both physical and psychological stress study
Bitter cola
Bitter cola known as garcinia kola is effective in reducing mental stress. A friend told me about how effective that could be. I used it and can confirm that chewing a seed or two of bitter cola can cause great relief. It induces sleep which allows you to rest and relax your nerves.
