Do you know what periodontal disease is?

Periodontal diseases are often referred to as Gum diseases because they occur around the tooth, much like a silent assassin with extremely destructive potential. During a combat with destructive microorganisms that live in the mouth, somehow, teeth are not able to stand up against gums, which demonstrate aggressiveness, inflammation or even bleeding at some time and loss of support structures for teeth.

With the war still ongoing the gum pull back, teeth become loose, and if not well attended you might even lose the case of the battling all together and suffer the loss of teeth. Therefore, you should make sure you brush your teeth and rinse your mouth every day, and use a dental floss every day too so that this sneaky enemy does not get a chance to harm your valuable asset- your teeth.

Write some of the causes of periodontal disease

Periodontal disease, is mainly attributed to improper hygiene and care of the mouth which includes irregular brush and rinse, deposition of plaque and tartar on the teeth and other causes of periodontal disease include cigarettes and other tobacco products which slows down the body’s ability to resist infection and a family history of the disease.

Sex hormones, contraceptive pills, diabetes, and dietary defects are some of the additions that cause the prevalence of periodontal disease and also stress, grinding or clenching, and other systemic diseases that affect the immune system can cause this common dental condition to worsen.

Can you tell us how periodontal disease is classified?

Periodontal disease may be best described by its stage and this depends with the severity of the condition.

Mild Periodontitis: There may be little to no bone loss around the teeth; however, the gums begin to pull away from the teeth, creating pocket spaces.

German Periodontitis: In this stage, there is moderate bone loss around the teeth, and the gums recede further, forming pockets more than two millimeters in depth.

How can we prevent periodontal disease?

We can prevent periodontal disease by the following ways.

  1. Maintain good oral hygiene: Flossing should be done daily, and brushing must be done twice to prevent the formation of cement like substance known as plaque at the gum line and bacteria that cause periodontal diseases.

  2. Healthy diet: Coca and sweets should be avoided in order to prevent periodontal diseases and have a healthy mouth, one should take fruits and vegetables.

  3. Avoid tobacco products: Thus, periodontal diseases can be expected if a person uses any kind of tobacco product, which must not be used.

  4. Manage stress: Stress weakens the immune system and the same may just be the reason, which explains why one might be at the risk of developing periodontal diseases. Shunning some of these stress causing factors such as taking so many stress reducing activities like exercising, meditating or practicing yoga can also be helpful in controlling periodontal diseases.
