Hello friends! I'm @drcypto1 from #pakistan and I warmly welcome all of you to my post. I hope that you all will be fine and will be enjoying your lives. Today I'm going to participate in the contest organized by @khursheedanwar in Healthy Steem The topic is "Tuberculosis". Let's start the topic;

What you know about tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused by microbacterium tuberculosis, TB primarily effects the lungs but it can also damage other parts of the body. Different kinds of tuberculosis effects different organs of the body. Some types are:

Types:

  1. Pulmonary TB: effect lungs
  2. Extrapulmonary TB: effects other organs like spine, brain, kidneys.
  3. Active TB: contagious, symptoms present.
  4. Latent TB: non contagious with no symptoms.

Causes:

Tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria called microbacterium tuberculosis. Some sources which are causing this disease:

  1. Weekend immune system
  2. Malnutrition
  3. Poverty and poor living conditions
  4. Smoking
  5. Airborne transmission through cough and sneezing
  6. Contact with infected person

Symptoms:

  1. Cough
  2. Fatigue
  3. Chest pain
  4. Chills
  5. Fever
  6. Weight loss

Treatment:

  1. Antibiotics and vaccines
  2. Prevent touch to infected person
  3. Screening
  4. Directly observed treatment short-course

Tuberculosis (TB) prevalence, incidence and prognosis;

Prevalence

Prevalenc means the rate of any diseases for a specific time. In 2022 a report was made about the tuberculosis patients by WHO. According to that report it was concluded that about 10 millions people were living with tuberculosis. It was very huge percentage of patients facing tuberculosis as compared to other diseases. Countries which were on top were south east Asia (about 43% people of this country were living with disease), India and Pakistan is also among the top countries. It was very alarming matter for all over the world. WHO took some strategies for overcoming tuberculosis. In the report this was shown that the people which were facing tuberculosis;

  1. Poverty
  2. Malnutrition
  3. No basic health facilities

Incidence

Incidence means that how much numbers of new cases of any disease are recorded in a community for specific time. From last few years the incidence of tuberculosis are increasing in numbers which is the sign that people are not getting basic facilities of living a healthy life. In 2020 it was estimated that about 1 million new cases were reported. Among top countries Pakistan was also included.

Prognosis

Tuberculosis is a severe disease but it can be cured by giving a proper attention of it's healing process. If we see any symptom of tuberculosis, immediately we should contact to doctor. Prognosis depends upon various factors. People who take some preventive measures, they get rid of this disease soon as compared to others. About 85% to 90% patients recover by giving proper treatment. About 60% patients recover by adopting some preventive measures without giving proper treatment.

Factors effecting prognosis:

  1. Age
  2. HIV/Aids
  3. Multidrug resistant
  4. Severity of disease at diagnosis
